Recruit: 2.35:1 in Korea???

Just stumbled across this...

http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=11006

Is it true?

Because if it is, I'm totally picking up THAT version.

You could post to their 'freeboard' and ask them to verify. I've heard it was gonna be OAR overseas but we won't really know for sure until its released at the end of August.

You understand that the director requested that the R1 DVD have the mattes lifted to 1.85:1 because he felt that he had done a lousy job composing for 2.35:1, right?

Wow, just watched this a few weeks ago and didn't even notice it was shot originally in 2.35:1... Guess "The Recruit" being such a mediocre film and another "Pacino, are you really that hard up for cash to do all these ****** films?", I just didn't even notice...

Completely understand.

I want it the way I saw it in the movies.

And I don't want something modified for home theater purposes.

I heard his argument and think the man is a moron. But I liked the film.

He is a moron, I agree. It's amazing that he's managed to crank out a couple of decent movies over the years.

I was thinking of No Way Out and 13 Days, both of which managed to be good movies despite having Kevin Costner in them.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RECEIVED MY COPY OF "THE RECRUIT" TODAY AND IT IS NOT IN 2.35:1 ASPECT RATIO!!!!

I'm a wee bit pissed and i've already contacted Koreandvds about this problem. I may be stuck with the DVD in which case I'm just going to sell it off on Ebay. However, I ordered Sleepers from them as well and THAT was supposed to be widescreen and is full screen. *sigh*

WARNING! DO NOT ORDER THIS VERSION!

That sucks. Paying all that shipping charge and you get the same exact movie. It is things like this and their shipping which has turned me off their site...even though I browse.

koreandvds.com will probably pay your shipping back to them. Evita was listed as 16:9 and wasn't and they paid for me to send it back.

That is sick, digi. I've held off on a few Korean DVDs because I've heard horror stories (are Chariots of Fire and Big 16:9? ANYONE know?).

I'm sorry that you had to go through that; best get some duct tape for the top and bottom of the screen. Best put on three layers of tape to stop the light shining through.

Yes, that was a joke. Sorry.

Big IS 16:9 folks. that was a part of my order. The transfer is better...from what I saw. I also got Great Expectations as well because that is anamorphic.

So 2 were good...and now i have to deal with Sleepers and The Recruit. They haven't responded yet. I wonder if they will. If not, that's a lot of money down the drain...and i'll probably never use them again.

Just an update...

They emailed me back about Sleepers. Good news! It IS anamorphic widescreen and dual layered. Take THAT R1!

About The Recruit, I have to send it back and they are CREDITING MY ACCOUNT. I don't even get a refund. Totally sucks.

I just watched the first few minutes. I noticed the sound is much louder and there was a lot more surround. The picture looked a bit better...but I just have a 36" wega with squeeze. Not as much of a change as Big (I saw a difference right away).

But i'm VERY happy about Sleepers. There's even some storyboards and photographs. Motion menus. Cool stuff. Plus it's not a flipper.
