I've realised after several years of DVD ownership that my viewing habits have changed. I seem to now suffer from Attention Deficit Syndrome (or is it syndrome?)

I am now quite willing to play movies for mere scenes and chapters rather than whole films. A scene here, a scene there, rather like the visual equivalent of album tracks. Am I alone with this deviancy?

What are your favorite tidbits from DVDs (whether it be specific scenes from movies or certain extras)?

If I had a DVD burner I wouldn't be pirating existing Discs but making compilations of favorite moments (compare with mixtapes on cassette).

Jeez, I'm the moviefan equivalent of Jack Black's character in High Fidelity. Enthusiam gets the better of me at times.

I do that all the time: some of my favourite repeat moments:

- The opening restaurant gun fight from "Hardboiled"

- T-rex attack "Jurassic Park"

- "Uncomfortably Numb" from 'Pink Floyd's The Wall'

- 'Crouching Tiger': Michelle Yeoh /Ziyi Zhang sword fight

- "Somewhere Out There" song from "South Park: The Movie"

I seem to have contracted the same disease....

*the final Mariachi-trio gunfight (Desperado: Superbit DVD)

*Cartman's "Respect my authoritaaaay" scenes from the Chickenlover episode (South Park: Season Two)

*Darth Maul/Obi-wan/Qui Gon duel (Phantom Menace)

*"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" (Dr. Strangelove)

*the luggage scene/"Are You Joe?" scenes (Joe vs. the Volcano)

To be entirely honest i haven't 'contracted' this affliction with regard to movies....i always play them from start to finish and wait patiently for any memorable scenes etc..to transpire...however, with regard to nearly all the music DVD's i own i very often just play from particular tracks/moments of the DVD.

the only 2 movies that I really do this for are 8 Mile (battle scenes) and Zoolander (the Walkoff scene)

I sometimes do this, but it usually makes me want to just watch the whole film.

same here with music dvds. my Steve Hackett's get a ton of play like that. as far as movies....they are meant to be watched from start to finish, and thats what I do. I think anything else is dis-respectful to the film itself. sure, I go back and check out/research scenes and chapters...but only after I've already digested the entire thing. now with some friends....I may show certian scenes and such, just so they get a taste for it or to see something they may normally not see. the other day...I showed a 20 minute version of The Transporter to a friend....knowing that this would make him go out and buy the dvd for himself. I find with other people, I can really spark thier interest in something if I only tease them a little....something to wet the beak.

I do this especially with the stand-up DVD's, such as Original Kings of Comedy and Dressed to Kill, but as woemcats stated, it just makes me want to watch the whole thing eventually!

I find that I take out some of my favorite movies and watch the beginning for the thrill of the anticipation of a great film, but then change my mind and want to go to another movie. I then repeat the process until I get bored or run out of time.

I do this with my sports DVDs....
such as the pivitol scenes in Victory, Hoosiers, and The Karate Kid. Also, as someone mentioned above, the end battles in 8 mile.

I have one movie, Heat, that I bought (even though I think its fairly boring) just for one scene.

Same here. I can only seem to get through one scene at a time. Takes forever to see the whole DVD. Isn't that odd?

When I got my first dvd player I found myself doing that with the lobby shootout scene in the first Matrix to show off the increased look and sound to friends and family.

I've been doing that for years. Probebly one of the main reasons I was so happy when DVD came out, since I didn't have a laserdisc player and it took forever to fastforward VHS tapes to my favorite scenes.

Over the past year I have been seriously cutting down on this habit. It started to bother me that I wasn't watching "favorite movies" all the way through. And then when I did sit down to watch movies that I'd been 'snacking' on, my enjoyment was severly weakened. I guess it was the contrast between stuff I'd seen a few times and stuff I'd seen nine hundred.

So now I try only to do it with movies that may have only one or two scenes worth watching. That would include:

-The beginning of DAY OF THE DEAD
-The 1st attack on the car in TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2
-Those two young... uh... 'voyuers' in CALIGULA
-The duel in BARRY LYNDON
-PEARL HARBOUR trailer on 6th SENSE

I try to do it with David Lynch's films but there seems to be some sort of error with them...

I only resort to DVD snacking during the summer. For the second year in a row I'm watching all my DVD's to see what I can weed out. Even though I'm still under the 300 mark it woudl take forever to watch every single one of them so I tend to fast forward. Otherwise when I sit down to watch a movie I'm in for the long haul.

I play some scenes over and over again whenever demo-ing my theater (or to feel good about the investment I've made!). But no, I don't think I really buy a DVD for just one or two scenes...I buy with the intent of watching/listening to EVERYTHING on disc!
