Good news for MALENA fans!!!
ATTENTION REGION 1 PLAYER OWNERS!!!
Just in case you were sulking that the English subtitled-uncut version of Malena was only available in Region 3, now you can turn those frowns upside down.....after playing the special edition dvd on my Malata, I placed it in my Panasonic region 1 player and discovered that it IS indeed playable.
It appears that this Region 3 Korean disk is after all ALL Region. And believe me, if you're going to own Malena, this is definitely the version to have (not only for the additional uncensored scenes, but for the DTS) So get rid of those Miramax copies and get your copy here:

Cheers!

I really enjoyed this film, an excellent story! but
IMDB lists an alternate version of 109 min, this version comes in at 103 ( I'm not sure of the lenth of the Italian version) - is this a misprint on either end? or?
(JIF) how is the quality of this disc? I would'nt mind upgrading for the extra content as long as the PQ is good

...a tad more T&A (brothel scene)... what else?... oh, yes - a touch of frontal male nudity (same scene)...

Excellent! This is the first I've heard of the Korean release. I've been wanting to see this film but I've been avoiding the cut Miramax release and of course the Italian disc is missing English subs. This is great news!

Let me clear up all the issues above...
First off this is an Official sanctioned release which is labeled Region 3, but is actually All Region. Some Korean DVD companies do this for reasons unknown... I own 10+ dvd's by the same company (Spectrum) who is releasing this version of Malena and I assure you they are quite legit. Also the DVD is NTSC as all Region 3 releases are (at least I've yet to hear or see a R3 PAL DVD). As for the quality of the disc, I should get mine Tues, but Spectrum has put out some very high quality releases before. Most Korean dvd companies put out quality releases on par with US studios...
As for DVDASIAN.COM, you won't find a better online store here in the states to buy Korean, Hong Kong, Japanese and Chinese DVD's from.

I got my disc 11 days ago.....
None of the extras are in English though in the Teaser/Trailer section there are 3 previews that are from the Miramax release. All of the extras are on the second disc ranging from crew work (which only shows all sorts of preparations on the set without any specific dialog....mostly crew insturctions and so forth).
Then there are a few shots from the recording stuido...conversations with the director etc....(as I said in Italian with Korean optional subs).
The DVD(s) itself is offered in a splendid digipack (Fight Club design). The picture quality appears to be a direct port of the Italian disc....I can not confirm 100% as I have not seen the film in its uncut version yet however there are only a few minor issues that I have with the video quality. On a few spots I noticed same print dirt (which has been discussed before at dvdbeaver) but overall I believe that this is the version to own if you would like to see the film uncut by MiramAxe.
I would give the disc presentation (audio/video/design) 7 out of 10...as I am convinced that this would be the best option offered to us English speakers to experience the film as it was meant to be seen by its creator!!!
