Groucho Presents…BOX OFFICE POKER!
Time for a new game to lighten up our otherwise dull and boring existances…BOX OFFICE POKER!. It gives those of you who don’t care about box office a reason to read about weekend grosses, and the best part is you don’t have to know anything about the business to play!
Here’s how you play:
1. All players pick a movie that is in current release for the weekend.
2. Each movie can only be chosen once.
3. When the final weekend numbers are posted at www.boxofficemojo.com on Monday, everybody uses the last five digits of their movie’s take to form a poker hand.
4. The hands are, from best to worst: pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, straight, full house, four of a kind, five of a kind.
5. 0 is high “card,” and can be used at either the beginning or end of a straight (0,1,2,3,4 or 6,7,8,9,0).
6. If your film makes less than $10,000 this week, you bust out.
7. Winner receives points equivalent to the highest grossing film that wasn’t picked by anybody.
An example using last weekend’s box office:
Let’s suppose I chose Terminator 3 and somebody else chose Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The take for T3 was $44,041,440, so my hand is 4-1-4-4-0 (three of a kind). The take for FT was $14,010,022 for a hand of 1-0-0-2-2 (two pair). I win, so I get 22,220,670 points (the box office take for Legally Blonde 2, which nobody chose).
Get it? Good…let’s play. Post your picks here…deadline is Monday at Midnight (Pacific Time).

BTW, the points don't matter, just like the part of the Victoria's Secret catalogue where they sell the pants.
