Liz Phair attempt at sales fails

Drops 30 points to #57 on Billboard in it's second week. Must really suck to sell out and not even sell.

This doesn't really mean anything. This happens with a lot of artists with a loyal fanbase- all the fans buy the album the first week, and there's not enough casual listeners to keep up the sales in the long run. My favorite artist, Tori Amos, often has her albums debut in the top five, then fall off the charts the next week.

I mean did any of Liz's other albums have long runs in the "top ten" charts? I don't recall any of them doing that. She's always been a fringe artist, it's just that 7 or 8 years ago she was held up as the poster girl for the Lillith Fair circuit, so she got a bit more exposure than other groups at the time.

I'll grant that this album isn't as good as her others, but it's not quite signaling the ruination of the modern world as some people seem to think.

It wouldn't even be an issue with me if she didn't repeatedly say in interviews how bad she wants a hit and the fact that she hired this "hit making team" called the Matrix to help her.

wow, she's "failed" after just 2 weeks. You must be clairvoyant.

No, just realistic. What percentage of CD's climb back up the charts after falling 30 points in their second week? 2%?

To paraphrase Juliana Hatfield..."How is it a sellout if nobody buys it?"

I'm no a fan of hers at all, so my opinion might not mean much at all here, but it seems to me her fans are a little upset with her new album. It kind of reminds me of a heavy metal band that starts with the letter M and ends in A. Let's see...

..."How is it a sellout if nobody buys it?"

Well from what it sounds like in this case, she sacraficed her artistic integerity(pardon my spelling please) to sell more records. Weather the true fans like it or not, or weather it sells or not, it is a sell out. To change or alter what you do best, just in the name of $$$, is selling yourself out.
