Simon Cowell's "Cupid" on CBS

So is anybody watching this new show called "Cupid"? I caught the last half of the show tonight and there were some moments of hilarity. I guess the gist of the show is there are 3 women that make up this panel that interviews men one at a time to pick a husband for the middle girl. The other two girls are middle girl's friends, I guess.

Anyhoo... the two "friends" seem like real female dogs with a capital B. Granted, some of the candidates were obviously losers, but the "friends" are totally berating and belittling these guys. One guy who was a "travelling ski instructor" got all pissed off and wouldn't quit showing his pictures and the security had to escort him off.

(I can't believe there is no thread on this show yet. Or maybe there is and I'm just an idiot.)

edit - The show is on cbs, not nbc as I originally posted.

Okay, so it's like American Idol, but in search for love/husband, not a pop star.

Laura is an uber-beeyotch, but she might score some good hosting possibilities down the road because she can really dish it out.

Lisa has some scarily big teeth.

The selection of guys these 3 women had to go thru was brutal. I guess if you are a stock/options trader, you're Lisa's type, or if you bring your family with you.

Yeah it seemed like if you were a trader, you were in. (In other words, if you're a yuppie who's tall, in good shape, wears nice business-casual clothes, and is totally bland, you're in.) The weirdos were just like the obviously bad singers on American Idol; their point in being there was to be humiliated. I wonder what the true motivations of these women are. Do they expect to get famous? Do they want TV hosting jobs? I doubt that a decent-looking chick like the one on Cupid would have trouble finding some tall, boring, nice-guy banker.

Oh, HELL NO!!!

Amazing what some people will do for a little fame. They'll go on national television and get verbally assaulted by three women. From what I saw of the previews, that blondish woman looked like a real C-U-N-September......

In the real world, I'd have to just slap them all!

I was going to watch it, but at the last minute, I just decided that I honestly did not have enough interest to continue to follow it.

I've only seem previews and I immediately thought this show was completely staged.

I didn't see it, but my wife watched it and completely agreed with me.

What do you guys think? I can't really comment since I didn't see it, but my wife (who eats this realty show crap up) thinks its completely staged.

You just have to come across sweet and sincere, and be reasonably attractive.

But, the viciousness of the 3 girls is a major turn-off (though it's probably more "real" in terms of actual reactions to each of these would-be suitors for Lisa.

Do y'all find Lisa super-hot? I don't. She's pretty, but not stunningly beautiful.

From the previews, I had absolutely no intention of watching it, but I ended up leaving the TV on after BB4 and found it pretty hysterical.

I liked watching the responses of the 3 women as they were confronted by that parade of losers. Laura especially was a scream: sharp, brutal, and devastating. She definitely played the b*tch role to the hilt, but then some of those guys really deserved it.

I was surprised at a few of their choices, though -- especially Skaterboy. Can anyone seriously see Lisa & him together? It's like they're from different planets.

Don't know how the show will be after the audition phase is complete, but I'll definitely tune in next week.

I wondered the same thing. He seems sincere, yes, but also very childish. He comes on the show with his mom and best friend (and skateboard) so he must not be all that confident. His isn't well-spoken and doesn't seem all too bright... ("It's like boring, you know, it's just boring" How many times can you say boring?) ... His mom (whose portrait is tattooed on Paco's arm!) speaking for the boy because he can't put a coherent sentence together. Pretty pathetic. ... And it's funny hearing a bartender saying he is bored with going out to bars! Paco was definitely a pity pick.

I will bet that Laura will have a TV hosting job in a heartbeat after this. You can tell she has what TV exec's like, the ability for me to hate her yet somewhat like her at the same time. Very hard to find.

Am I the only who has that "Stupid Cupid" song running through their head when they watched this show? I got the song in my head from it being sung by one of the American Juniors contestants last week.

If that b*tch would have torn one of my pictures I would have thrown that drink in her face. She crossed the line doing that.

My wife and I were discussing this last night and we realized one important point-- If the 3 girls saw a guy treating a girl the way that they treated some of the guys-- they wouldn't want anything to do with him.

They are looking for someone that is kind, considerate, compassionate, etc. yet they themselves don't exhibit these qualities.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were just Laura (the blonde friend) that were always rude but Lisa herself had some pretty bad moments.

At this point, I may just keep watching so I can vote and make sure that Lisa is stuck with a partner "worthy" of her.

You know, I was thinking the same thing... I'm growing to dislike the three of them so much, I might vote for the worst guy they have. You know complaints would be all over the place if this were three guy belittling women contestants. Is it any wonder all three of them are still single (or divorced)? They were nice to the cute guys or guys with a future... and I think they were less catty when relatives were there. That first guy bringing his sister and mom was classic... no way could they have belittled him in front of them.

Man, that main girl doesn't look like she's 25... more like she's 30. And they're trying to make it seem like "normal" people would try out for this... they keep on saying how disappointed they were in certain cities. Well, the great guys aren't looking for love on a tv show.

I think the girls are sort of compassionate until the contestants get "uppity" about being dismissed. But, yeah, there's something snooty and snotty about these women doing the "judging" of these men. But it's just like how Simon/Randy/Paula had to endure a lot of bad singers until they got a few who could carry a tune that their ears perked up. Same concept, but it feels different due the relationship aspect of how the suitee is treating all the prospective suitors.

Just watched this. It's interesting as a Bachelorette set in an American Idol framework. I wonder, though, what happens when they get past the introductory round? I know the audience will vote, as in Idol... but what will this be based on? Are they going to keep doing stupid stunts, or will they go on dates, or what? The date thing is kind of played, plus I don't think they can adequately portray that many dates in one show each week. These contestants are REALLY going to be at the mercy of the show's editors. It seems like this could lose interest quickly after the "slam the losers" round.

Oh, you mean the guys don't sing and serenade the ever so fetching Lisa each week? For shame!

My guess will be that they'll go on dates just like every other show, but her friends will MST3K the footage... like a commentary track or something. I dunno, it just seems like they're banking this whole thing on the "American Idol of Love" angle, but it seems that it'll be hard to apply the formula once they've got the initial impressions out of the way. And while I agree that Lisa is nothing special, and that her friends are royal beeyotches, I simply can't feel too sorry for any these guys. If they thought the singles scene was too tough, yet actually thought this was a logical alternative, they deserve to be mocked.

This show makes me literally LOL at the "suitors" that show up trying to impress Lisa. The reactions and attitudes by Laura and Kim towards not only the "losers" but the "hotties" are also quite interesting and laugh-inducing. This is funny stuff!
