Just like everyone else I'm looking to buy an HDTV in the next couple weeks and looking for some recommendations. Looking for something in the 57-65" range (room is almost 20' across so TV is pretty far from couch), DVI or VGA is a must as I want to hook a PC up to it and may actually get a XP Media Center box further down the road. Definitely want something that will stretch 3:2 to 16:9. Good pic quality is obviously a must, would prefer something w/out HDTV tuner since Comcast will provide. Other than that, not may requirements. Looking in the $2500 range although I'd probably go into the low $3000 range if needed.

Thanks in advance. You guys were able to recommend a Panasonic 42" that my parents bought around the beginning of the year and they're very happy with it.

Check here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?forumid=63) . I think it's the a good place to get started with your search.

You should stick with Toshiba or Hitachi. Mitsubishi is recommended too, but it doesn't have DVI.

If you want to hook a PC to your TV then CRT RPTV may not be your best choice. Do a research on "burn-in" and you will know why. DLP or LCD based RPTV would be more apt to your requirements. However, $3,000 will probably get you only 50" DLP or LCD RPTV. Sony is supposed to come out with a new LCD RPTV in September and the MSRP for the 60", I heard, would be around $3,800 which should translate to about $3,300 street price.

I agree somewhat. Stick to Tosh and Hitachi but also add in Pioneer and starting with the new models Mits will now have DVI and Firewire. These are the top four RPTV makers right now with Panasonic and Samsung right on their tails.

I like the new Hitachis and Toshibas. How much does a Samsung DLP cost?

I'm a proud new owner of a Toshiba 65H83, and couldn't be happier. Keep in mind that many people have not had luck connecting a PC via the DVI input, but use a VGA to component converter like this one (http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/9a60.asp) .

Mitsubishi sets have a VGA connection, but their stretch modes for 4:3 sources are not very good. Toshiba's are fantastic.
