Monty Python and the Holy Grail Collector's Edition - What's new?

Anyone know? This is the first I've heard of this.. reported on thedigitalbits.com this morning.

They said "That Holy Grail DVD is a 2-disc set and the packaging is new. We're still working to determine if it's a completely new edition or just the previous special edition release in new packaging (we suspect it's new)."

Can't imagine what else they could add, it was a pretty decent set...

It probably contains the soundtrack CD, a movie cell, a mini poster, etc...

Nah, it's cheap. Maybe they fixed the subtitles.

Yeah, but according to CTHE, the subtitles were "fixed" when they were locked on the second print run... Unless you mean the missing subtitle at the beginning...

I like that cover though.

That's neat. I think I'll stick with the older one though. Especially if it's 60 bucks!

I like the cover as well because it reminds me of the published script that came out in 1975 as seen below:

Also, if this package does indeed turn out to include the soundtrack and screenplay, etc... and if it duplicated this version of the script I would get it and recommend it to others. The script has all sorts of printed handwritten notes throughout as well as drawings and storyboards and even the budget!

Even if it's not the same I would track down a copy of this excellent book.

I never got the SE for that reason. Too many other DVDs to bother replacing my first version. I'll spring for this if they fix all the subtitles.

We had a copy at our library at school and I must have checked it out at least once a semester to read and learn from... it's that good. The current DVD copy of Holy Grail has Palin buying a copy in the shop in the castle they shot the movie in and they read through it to act out some of the scenes. It's funny to watch.

I have an copy of the book that Mr. Palin is reading in the documentary. It's pretty damn informative as there is a couple drafts of the script as well as hand written notes as well as budget info. Also, there is a ton of Terry Gilliams animation that didn't make the film. I was planning on selling this on ebay but if anyones interested just let me know.

When I visited Dunn Castle last July (to overlook the "vast tracks of land"), they did NOT have this book for sale in the gift shop like the DVD implies they do

(Of course I did already had a copy, but still)

So far the "must have" Python editions are:

-Life of Brian (Criterion Edition)
-Meaning of Life (Special Edition due out Sept)
-Holy Grail (Special Edition or maybe the new Collectors edition when details come out.
-And Now for Something completly Different (standard edition)

Are we in agreement?

Ummm...what about the box set of all the original television shows? That seems even more essential than any of the above, at least to me...

Thats true. I was only talking movies here but if we are talking Python DVD's in general im sure we can get a bigger list going. With things like Documentaries (Life of Python) and Live stuff.

Then the collection would be:

- The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus - MegaSet
- And Now for Something Completely Different
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail (SE)
- Monty Python's Life of Brian (Criterion)
- Monty Python's Meaning of Life (SE)
- Monty Python Live!
- The Life of Python

I must be forgetting something

So when should we expect info on this new Holy Grail set? I really hope it's not a double-dip.

Let's hope so. I didn't want to risk picking up another one in the chance it might be another "error" disc and I didn't want to chance mailing it away on my dime. Definitely will be picking this up!

And now for something completely different

Glad to see Universal is using better cover art for the new Meaning of Life SE.

I can't stand the old cover art.
