Had a friend once who was a big Argento fan, loves Suspiria to death. He's got a million versions on a million formats. Now he hates the Anchor Bay remix of the soundtrack, which is missing dialogue and has sound effects in incorrect places, so he often goes back to his laserdisc because it sounds proper.

I suggested to him, plug the audio cables into the laserdisc player and the video cables into the DVD player. Apparently, it worked for him.

Now, is this really worth the bother, you might ask? I wonder too. I look at eBay prices for Laserdiscs, and think about buying up a ton of the DTS Lds to compliment my DVDs. Would it be just too much of a pain to try and synch up the DVD and Ld?

Anyone else tried this?

I've never tried it, but I've heard of people doing to compare versions on LD vs DVD. You could have the video output for one of the players go to another TV (maybe a 13" you could move easily) and try to sync up the picture. But you would have to do it for every side swap also.

Sounds like a pain in the ass, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

At some point we have to remember its only a movie. It is not the key to paradise on earth.

I've done this before with commentary tracks (linking the LD commentary to the DVD picture). But that was easy because I didn't have to sync it up EXACTLY. If the audio was a second or two off, it wouldn't matter.

I would think doing it with the actual film soundtrack would be damn near impossible. Even if you're off by a millisecond, the delay would be obvious and annoying.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, even if you got the audio in sync... that would only be good for (at most) 1 hour. Then you'd have to resync everything for the LD side break. For a long movie or a CAV movie, you'd have to repeat this 2 or 3 or more times.

Again, this is all technically possible. But it seems like a pretty big pain and a lot of frustration for slightly better picture/sound. Best just to watch a LD or DVD completely.

This would be virtually impossible, right up until you need to flip the laserdisc over. Then it becomes completely impossible.

If you're really technically inclined, there are ways of combining the two other than syncing them up by hand. Forum policy may prevent me from mentioning, but you might get my drift.
