Cars That Ate Paris- Opinions?

This movie was recently released in the UK- R2 DVD. Has anyone seen it and has some comments about the film itself? It's only £4.99 it Blackstar and £5.99 at Bensons World.

Movie starts out in correct ratio of 2.35:1 and looks great, however once the titles are over it pulls back to 1.78:1 for no good reason. Avoid like the plague.

what about "Death in Brunswick"? Is that presented in its OAR, or should it also be avoided?

I hate you Jonathan I saw your comments in another thread on this title the day after my copy shipped... but I think I will keep it as I cannot see anything better on offer unless Criterion's comments regarding an impending release by Home Vision Entertainment prove to be credible (they mentioned this during an HTF chat a year or so ago).

On a brighter note, it appears that the version of Picnic at Hanging Rock released in the same batch, is using the Criterion master.

I emailed Home Vision Entertainment regarding their supposed upcoming release (as mentioned by Criterion people in an HTF chat session some time ago), and the following is the response I received this morning:
---------------------
There are plans to release a special edition DVD of "Cars that Ate Paris" later this year. No date has been announced at this time. Our release will include an interview, and most likely, also include Weir's "The Plumber", on the same disc.

More information will be posted as production progresses and street date is finalized. You may want to take the time to register for our mailing list, we will be sending periodic updates regarding upcoming releases to those
registered. To register simply click on the SIGN UP link from the top banner on our site, then complete the form labeled JOIN OUR MAILING LIST at the top of that page.

----------------------------

So, things are looking very good indeed on the Cars That Ate Paris front.

regards, Tim...
