I pick 2, I know the first film was great, but the 2nd was a lot better, I don't know why, but it is.
The 3rd film was good too!

I picked 3, nothing beats Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. 4 is a close second though, Dolph is awesome :)

In terms of quality, the first one. Of course it kept going down one notch after another as the series progressed.
That said, part 4 rocks ass. Russian monster Dolph Lungdren kills Apollo Creed and Rocky must avenge his death!! The whole thing is done soo damn cheesey that you can't help but smile.
"I must break you!"
Part 3 is pretty fun too. Mr T with a cameo by Hulk Hogan! Mr T's pretty mean in this one and beats the crap out of everyone....till the last match that is.
I think that's what sucked about the series, it became too formulaic and ultimately predictable (minus the first one of course). BTW, Part 2 is basically Part one with an alternate ending. I could never sit through all of rocky 5 so I cant say much about that one (well, anything positive that is).

You should catch them on cable channels like TNT or TBS. They play them all back to back sometimes on weekends. That's how I got into them.

For a long time, I never saw Part III as a kid. I saw Parts I & II back to back on channel five I think when I was eleven years old. It was back in the day when it used to be called Big Apple Movies. Anyway, that's how I discovered the series. Then came Part IV!! WHAM!! What an awesome movie it was. The training and everything was just amazing. The cinematography, too! All of that. Finally, being the Hulkamaniac that I was, Part III finally arrived on television. (WTF took it soo long!!) And it was amazing. Hulk Hogan ruled the world for me then, and it was great seeing Rocky tossed around and out of the ring like that. Anyway, the Paulie character has got to be the best on in all the movies, aside from the Rock, himself. Oh, and which is my favorite? Hmmmmmmm...... after careful consideration, I'd say the first, cause it's just that damn good, dramatic and powerful. (It still gets me when he's struggling to climb the ropes and Mic is telling him to "stay down, stay down!!" And the ending, of course, too!
Long before Braveheart, this used to be my favorite film!

I picked 2. I enjoyed it much more than the first, even though it is the same exact movie with the ending changed. I loved the ending of the first movie(I love it when our hero doesn't come out on top)more, but I thought the overall execution was better in 2.

Nothing beats the first film. The others are very entertaining sports movies, and I like them (even 5), but the first is just an excellent film that has little to do with the actual fight. The final scene is beautifully done with Adrian and Rocky climbing through the crowd to get to each other while the announcer reveals in the background that he's lost the fight, but neither of them cares, because he went the distance, and all he wants to do is share it with Adrian.

I picked 2. But I thought it was one, so my vote is actually for one. I haven't seen them in a while, so I got them backwards. Oops.

I like them all, even Rocky V, but the original is far and away the superior movie. One of the greatest American movies.
I voted for Rocky II...that training scene where he runs up the steps and all those kids are following him is one of the GREAT moments in movie history.

They all get gradually worse, and Rocky V is just one of the worst movies ever. But the original is pretty good, and that gets my vote.

The first one, of course is the best. It did win an Oscar for a reason, after all. However, if you were to remove that one from the mix, I would have to say that III kicks all kinds of ass. I mean Mr T's break through roll! The killer song from Survivor! It was damn fine.
Of course I have to give mad props to IV - probably the best anti-Red Menace movie to come out in the 80's. Sure your Red Dawns and Invasion USAs and Rambo IIIs are great movies when you want to watch the ruskies getting their ass handed to them - but nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats Dolph's premiere. They just don't make movies like that anymore.
Pure classic cheese.

Have to vote for the first one. It had the originality and magic the sequels lacked. I thought 2 and 3 were decent, but any sequel has to be very, very good to surpass the original. 4 was a bunch of commercialized, blockbuster fluff. 5 was just crap, pure and simple.

The first is the best of the series.
That said, my favorites are III and IV. :)

1st was on the best movie.
For pure enjoyment, 3 and 4 can't be beat!
Ivan Drago
Clubber Lang
Pauli's Robot
they are just sweet!
For my money, I put 4 above 3. here is why:
Training Montage : 4 (Russia)
3's was really good, I'll admit it. But the homoerotic embrace at the end is kinda sketchy. Rocky helping Russians out of the snow is a nice gesture and when Rocky gets to to the top of the Siberian mountain and yells DRAGO..you just get chills
Death Scene: 4 (Apollo)
Apollo's is better than Mickeys. Mickey was old, he was ready to go. Apollo's life was cut short, plus the moment when he says "Whatever you do, don't stop the fight" - I kinda thought that he knew he was going to die. Plus you get James Brown.
Villian: 3 (Lang)
This is a tough one. Both are excellent and not the traditional villians. They both want to just win. Clubber was getting screwed by Rocky because he wouldn't face him. So the confrontation at the statue is classic - "Let me take you home and show you a real man (to Adrian). Ivan was a pretty good character, especially at the end, when he sees what Rocky is (unstoppable - iron) but says the immortal words - "I fight for me!" But Lang was more flamboyant so I give him the edge
No Easy Way Out Montage (4) is key. You get all the highlights from the previous Rocky's including all the best things from 3.
