Star Wars: Episode III--the final installment of George Lucas' Star Wars prequels--began filming on Monday, June 30th in Sydney, Australia. The shoot will take 12 weeks, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, and is employing a cast and crew of more than 1,000 people.
There's no title yet for the movie, but the film will chronicle how Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side to become Darth Vader.
Director-producer-writer Lucas reportedly finished the Episode III script five days before filming kicked off. That's two days better than last time around: Lucas turned in the completed script for Star Wars: Episode II--Attack Of The Clones only three days before principal photography kicked off.
In addition to returning cast members like Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman, Episode III features British actor Peter Mayhew, who reprises the role of <b>Chewbacca</b> for the first time since Return Of The Jedi.
After principal photography wraps on Episode III in October, Lucas and select cast and crew will periodically return to Sydney for additional filming for 18 more months.

Thanks for not getting it, cuz neither did I and I didn't want to admit such stupidity. Though, don't most people already know Chewie is in the third one?

On theforce.net, someone tried to pass off their own fan script for the Ep III script. theforce.net loved it. I thought it wasn't that good (even Lucas is not THIS bad). Lucasfilm confirmed that this script isn't Lucas'. Check it out for yourself.

Some folks like to be completely in the dark about any info really. this sites owner was angry at Entertainment weekly for putting on the cover that there was going to be twins and a car chase in reloaded. Just goes to show you that spoilers mean different things to different people and the chewie thing has been known to those who want to know. some who want to hear nothing want to be left in the dark. My spoiler gag was just an attempt to show a picture of a spoiler with the phrase of chewie. :p
if you look at the star wars episode III website you will see a drawing of chewie all battlesuited out.. strange stuff.

Those who want to remain completely spoiler free should have the intelligence not to click on any Star Wars III threads.

I've read that script and it's actually good IMO. Except for a few snags here and there, there are a lot of good scenes in there.

I find that I simply can't muster any excitement for Episode III. Such a shame. I remember how unbearable the wait was for Episode I.

I don't think I was hit quite as hard as most people were by the "Episode I" syndrome. I was never really "into" Star Wars back in the day like a good number of people were. I think that's why I was able to enjoy Episode I and II so much, because I wasn't going in expecting anything and came out enjoying both. I wacthed the OT after Episode II came out for the first time in probably 10 years. I enjoy all of them.. but none of them would be in my top 10.

I think it's too far away to really get excited about. Right now I'm more anxious for ROTK.
I'm sure by winter 2004 the interest in Episode III will start to rise.

I now look forward to Star Wars more to see how Georgie ties everything together rather than expecting a good movie. There are so many loose ends he has to explain. I don't doubt that he will, but now that has become more important to me.
Well, it does look the kind of car a guy named Chewie would drive.

I am assuming that Hayden Christensen with play Darth Vader on Episode III...........I only hoping he got more acting lessons because his work on Episode 2 was just plain awful. However, Lucas may have a hand in his performance since he is not an actors director. Just look at Jake Loyd's (the young Annakin) acting on Episode I. Terrible! Terrible!

It's already know that lucas doesn't direct acting much. If he had the means to do a totally 100% digital actors. I'm sure he would. :p

I think Lucas is a somewhat lazy director. The documentaries I've seen for the last two Star Wars make it look like his AD's/Production Team do everything - even coach some of the actors - while he sits there and says action.
(Mind you, I understand the AD's are suppost to do all of the menial tasks - but his do about everything to me)

Okay, I'm confused. I heard somewhere that Episode III was coming out next year. I'm pretty sure it was a mistake, but I'm just checking to make sure. We're still on for 2005, right? Cuz that would be the normal 3-year wait. I just don't want them to pull a Batman & Robin. I mean, Batman Forever was no work of art, but looked like a masterpiece next to that POS, and it always ticked me off that it came out only 2 years later rather than the traditional 3. So, I'm assuming they'll film for 12 weeks, and then use the remaining year and a half or whatever to work on the effects and such, right? Apparently Star Wars movies take a long time to make. I'm sure some of you would say, "You wouldn't know it to look at 'em." I wouldn't. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but I somehow like 'em all. Except Jar Jar, for which I wish death in the most unpleasant of ways.

I think being incessantly called "Annie" by everyone would probably drive me around the bend, also.
