This is what every Martin Scorsese movie should have , a loaded disc with commentary and lots of extras.
Right now this and Last Temptation of Christ are the only Scorsese movies I own, and while I know Cape Fear has loaded extras, well, the movie stinks. :(
I want to see Casino, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Age of Innocence, and of course, Goodfellas to all get treatments like this.

Then again, I guess we all would. :(

I'm with you for more Scorsese special editions, but what about Mean Streets and After Hours?

I may be the only one that wants it, but I'd be thrilled if they released an SE of "Kundun". There was an excellent feature length documentary on the making of the film on IFC when the film was released in theaters.

Taxi Driver has a terrific documentary that more than makes up for a lack of commentary.
I've been waiting for Raging Bull and Goodfella SEs for a long time. Maybe someday MGM and Warner Bros. will figure out these titles are just as deserving of upgrade as Windtalkers and Robin Hood : Prince of Theives. We'll see...

It's disappointing to me that no deleted scenes are included.

GoNY is a great dvd; great DTS, great docs, and I like that lingo page.
I knew no deleted scenes would be here, at 2:45 I'm sure everything was there.
Taxi Driver is a great disc too, especially for the doc (its like 70 mins long) and storyboards which MS drew.

But I wish they put the movie on one disc and the features on the other, switching mid movie is irritating.
This is what a dvd is all about, great all around disc, and you know what-it not even labeled as a SE!!!
Most SE aren't SE.

The Taxi Driver SE is awesome. One of the best dvds I own.

I'm starting to think I'd be happy with a bare bones release of After Hours!!! but this would be perfect for special treatment...I love this film.

It's nice to own the Criterion laserdiscs of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull with commentaries.:)

Unfortunately, this is far from the truth, as it has already been well-documented in the past that there were major edits made to the final picture.

Watching the opening battle, it's more than obvious that there were numerous cuts made to lessen the violence. It's a shame that Scorsese is playing the Miramax game and we'll probably never see his original cut. And no, those bootlegs of the workprint don't count.

Gangs of New York DVD....one of the best I own. But the 'spread over two discs' thing is just dumb. But its a minor thing. Great movie, great DVD.

I haven't seen one post even mention Scorsese's mid-70s beauty, "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." I can't believe it's still not available on disc. Most people seem to forget, or not even realize, that he directed this film, which won Ellen Burstyn her only Best Actress Oscar. One of my favorite films of the 70s.

Just so nobody gets mad, remember : Miramax has gone on record that they will reviest this title later, most likely with an extended cut. I still picked this one up as it was cheap and had the commentary track, but I'll be bummed if they give it a Pearl Harbor Vista-like treatment in a few months :(

Nope sorry. It's a tie between Goodfellas and Taxi Driver. While Taxi Driver painted a stark picture of NYC in the 70s and had a real independent feel, Goodfellas is a equal force to be reckoned with. While not a box office success, Scorcese showed that the mob movie could be done in the 90s with all the style and grandeur of Godfather without the runtime.

For the record, GONY is Scorsese's second most successful film behind Cape Fear. None of his movies have been what you could term major success stories by today's standards.

They way people speak of him, you would never think that, but it's true. As a result, he most likely has more trouble getting many of his movies made as opposed to somebody like Michael Bay or Simon West.

My brother just got this for me for my birthday so we watched it last night. I loved it! Not only is it a great movie, but the DVD is incredible. IMO, this has reference quality video and audio.

Did anyone else notice one of the guys in the rowboat doing the hands-out flying thing just like in Titanic?...I couldn't tell if it was Leo doing it...

Also, I am not sure if it could be classified as a Scorese movie, but I really enjoyed The Last Waltz. The DVD is incredible, Marty really captured the end of an era with this one :).

Seriously. If they're waiting forever just trying to get a commentary on there, I'd prefer if they released it immediately with a nice $19.95 MSRP. This is one of my most anticipated DVDs.

You must have gotten your info from some chick ;-) I’m too lazy to look up all of his movies (and I agree he’s turned out a few financial flops—like King of Comedy and LToC), but a quick sampling from IMDB shows:

• Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Budget = $85K, BO = $17M (200x return)
• Taxi Driver: Budget $1.3M, BO = $21M (16x return)
• Color of Money: Budget $10M, BO - $52M (5x return)
• Goodfellas: Budget $25M, BO = $46M
• Raging Bull: Budget $18M, BO = $30M

just watched the dvd for the first time (i had never seen the movie). pretty cool flick. not exactly what i expected (lots more diologue and less action than i thought) but still entertaining!

i thought i would hate the spread over 2 discs things but it was a nice break (although at a very odd place to put the break! lol!)

now i get to watch all the great extras!

I, too, am extremely pleased by this release. The commentary is very good, the Discovery Channel documentary is excellent, and though it was not up to the high bar set by the new BHD release, for $15 I think it's an excellent 2-disc set. Very glad I picked this one up, sight unseen, so to speak (although with this forum that, thankfully, is really no longer the case, ever)...

What has Scorcese done in the past for you to expect an action flick? Just curious.

The DVD is very well done, Having seen it for the first time this weekend, I think the film is better than it was received during its initial run. It was very Dickensian. Going back to the DVD itself, the audio and video was excellent, and don't mind flipping discs since if it means I get both a DTS track and a Scorcese commentary!

It was never officially announced, just rumored (with substantial evidence) that WB was working on one that would contain SE's of Goodfellas, Mean Streets, After Hours, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, and Who's That Knocking At My Door?.

The first mention of it was last year, and it was supposed to be coming out this year. The studios have announced most of their upcoming titles for this year and it doesn't look like it's coming. The most recent mention was during the WB Chat (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/files/warner03.txt) on April 22 on HTF, where they give the impression that they still can't get Scorsese's involvement.

Obviously for a re-release of a movie as popular as Goodfellas, they need to go all out and they should wait until they can make it perfect. But for the movies that haven't been released yet, I would much rather have them released immediately at a very low price, rather than continue to wait and wait and wait. Aside from a commentary, what "special features" can they have for Hours, Alice, and Knocking? And the interest in these titles isn't anywhere near as high as it is for Goodfellas.

I say go for the gusto on that release and it will be a very popular and successful DVD, but put the other movies out already.
