So whats the secret to Gran Turismo 3 - A Spec???
I bought this game after reading all the great reviews and high reccomendations. I think the game is great! But the controls really suck. Only the Rally (off road) cars are any fun because they handle fantastic. All the other cars seem very hard to turn with though! I cant help but hitting walls when trying to turn because the damn things just dont turn tight enough; whats up with that? Is there some sort of secret to turning or an adjustment that has to be made? I use the brakes but the car slows down TOO much, like to about 30 or 40 mph when taking a turn, Its no fun. Plus the cars have no pick up like when "flooring the pedal" and trying to take off fast. Its just slow.
So what can I do to get the full experience out of this game? What bothers me the most are the turns that just arent tight enough. I even tried using that Drift option but that made me go in circles when trying to take a turn; it OVER turned, so that really sucks. Ive tried different button combos of button pressing like gas - break - reverse - gas, or gas - break - hand break - gas - reverse -gas, etc. But I cant seem to get perfect turns. Whats the secret here guys? Please help!

My suggestion is to read the booklet. There is a basic tutorial that explains how to make those turns you are having so much trouble with as well as tips on the different car types and breaking styles. Because GT3 is a simulation-style game, each car is going to handle differently, just like in real life.
Another thing to try is to just pick one type of car (FF, FR, MR, 4WD) and stick with it....eventually you will learn it's breaking points and turning speeds. It gets easier and easier the more you play.
Good luck.

The secret is spending money on upgrading your car.
I felt the same way. Beautiful game, played like crap. Rally mode kicked ass though.
Anyway, I decided to screw around with some of the money I won in a few races. Lo and behold, my car kicks ass with even more room for improvement.
Remember though, it's a sim game, not an arcade racer (buy Ridge Racer for that )

Believe it or not, winning racing depends less on speed and more on braking. Move to the outside, slow down, and dive into the corner and you'll do a lot better.
The license tests will go a long way in helping you out.

You also NEED to buy the Logitech driving force or Logitech GT force steering wheel and pedals for this game. Gran Turismo 3 is all about simulation driving, precise braking, and fine-tuned steering. How can anyone expect to play this game well with a gamepad?
