Recommend some funny anime

Wasn't sure if I should continue the old thread or start a new one....

Anyways, I just finished watching Excel Saga on VCD, and wanted something similar. Are there other humorous, off-the-wall animes?

I always thought Dirty Pair was pretty funny. In fact I never replaced my VHS so I don't know if it is even on dvd (although I am almost positive it is) Can someone give me info on these dvds so that I can maybe pick them up?

Most of the Lupin series, and The Castle of Caliostro (sp?)

that rooftop scene was hilarious.

#1 recommendation: Azumanga Daioh, coming sometime from ADV.

Other shows of interest:

Puni Puni Poemi, this is sort of a side OVA from Excel Saga (but not really) basically it is the japanese voice actress who plays the cosplay Excel (ie - bowling episode), and she also sings the theme song for Excel. She sort of plays herself in the anime, its a little confusing to explain, but damn funny. ADV also has the rights to this, but you can find it online now. 2 episodes long. You will also see a few of the Excel Saga cast in this.

Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nuchi Guu, a great anime about a boy Hale who lives in a community in the jungle with his "interesting" mother, a strange girl named Guu comes and lives with them. Not yet available R1 (I am hoping for an announcement soon...hopefully at AX). Very bizarre, very funny.

Ebichu, a housekeeping hamster that is just trying to help her master..er...owner keep a guy and be happy. Very funny, vey ecchi. Not hentai though. Also not available R1.

Martian Successor Nadesico, available R1 from ADV i think. A big robot spoof, makes fun of Eva. Very funny, especially the Gekiganger3 stuff.

Full Metal Panic!, vol 1 available now R1. A mercenary goes back to high school to protect a girl. Some very funny moments, great side characters. Should be interesting.

FLCL, its funny, its weird, its Furi Kuri (Fooly Cooly). 3rd and final R1 volume comes out in about a month from Synch-Point. Great DVDs, pretty funny and strange.

There are many more, but these are some of my faves.

Excel Saga - Parody, wacked out show made more interesting by the colorful voice acting.

I'm not usually a fan of dubs but the ones in this series are priceless.

Suprised nobody has mentioned Tenchi, which is a personal fav of mine. Though avoid Tenchi in Tokyo like the plauge.

I watched the first 3 dvds of Love Hina and I was honestly let down from the hype. The jokes and story got pretty repettive IMO.

Want to see GTO but I'm going to wait for all of the dvds to be released first.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor - I absolutely love this series, it cracks me up every time...almost all episodes are hilarious, some just funny - only one or two over the top, but those even have their merits.

Excellent overall.

I recommend purchasing the Excel Saga dvd's to support the creator. There are loads of funny menu easter eggs on the discs and the menus are ingenious.

I don't know if you know or not, but they are making a 3 rd and 4th tenchi OVAs to complete the Tenchi Muyo series. I think the 3rd is almost done.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor is the funniest anime series I've watched.

Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) is probably second.

FLCL is great.

Dragon Half is some pretty goofy super-deformed stuff. But if you liked Excel saga then hell, I can't think of too many things that would be too over-the-top for you.

Naruto is good. It is an action/martial arts based anime. Good comedy and cool fighting style. I think it is some of the best animation out there. It is still airing in Japan, though, so no DVDs.

The other one I would recommend is Ranma 1/2. Ryoga is great.
