Duck Soup Question

Hi All,

I have been wanting to get a copy of Duck Soup. Saw it years ago and loved it. Anyways, it is apparently OOP and goes for pretty high prices on Ebay. So, does anyone know if this os going to be re-released anytime soon? If not, is the current version out there decent?

I appreciate any input!

Zack

There have been several threads about these OOP titles - but no sign yet of any reissues.

They were part of a whole list of titles that Universal had licensed to Image, and then when the original license agreement was up, Universal reclaimed the rights. I guess the good news is that slowly those titles are reurfacing on Universal, often with some nice new supplemental material (Fahrenheit 451, Andromeda Strain among others) so eventually....

I wish I could help you, but I've never heard of this title. Is it a hunting documentary?

Yes, it is a hunting documentary about the intricacies of wild antelope.

It will be coming out next year remastered.
Are you sure of that?! I had not heard that until now. Has it been confirmed? Please, where did you hear that? I am not doubting you, but I would just love to know for sure.

Thanks so much for the info!

Warner Bros does not control the rights to the early Marx Brothers films. Universal controls the rights to films up to DUCK SOUP; Warner Bros controls the rights to A NIGHT AT THE OPERA and the other MGM titles.

I'm sure that Universal will release them again some day (ideally with restored prints and supplements) but who knows when that will happen...

A Night at the Opera is coming soon from Warner, but Universal has done nothing with the films they took away from Image. I have yet to hear of an anouncement of them releasing Duck Soup or any of the other early films. Thankfully I bought all of the Image Marx Bros films for $10 each when they were still easy to find.

Still waiting for the greatest Marx Bros movie ever.

A Day At The Races

Just saw it the other day at 3am on AMC. Still frigging hilarious.

A Warners exec confirmed during a recent Home Theater Forum discussion that all the MGM Marx Bros. films (A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, etc.) are coming to DVD on 2004, but I haven't heard anything about the Paramount films, which were issued by Universal through Image and are now oop.

The Image discs, btw, were absolutely wretched. (MONKEY BUSINESS is so splicey it's difficult to watch.) You are better off waiting on upgraded reissues. The problem is there's no telling how long your wait is going to be.
