Most novel to movie adaptations?

I wondering what novel has had the most film adaptations...I know Choderlos de Laclos' novel spawned Les Liaisons dangereuses/ Dangerous Liaisons/ Valmont/ Cruel Intentions and that 3 versions of Heminngway's short story The Killers have been filmed. Any others that have 3 or more movie adaptations?

Don't forget Cruel Intentions 2 on that list... its the same plot as the original cruel intentions

Oh, and I would have to say some Shakespeare works have been adapted numerous times; Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and MacBeth have often been made.

Shakespeare doesn't count because he wrote plays, not novels.

For god's sake, he never inetended for people to read them.

Good question...

Les Miserables has about half a dozen.

War and Peace and Anna Karennina each have three that I know of.

Just because a character is recurring in many movies doesn't mean that all those movies are adaptations from the original source.

I mean, "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" or whatever is not exactly an adaptation of Shelley's novel, is it?

Just like "Tarzan in Manhattan" is not an adaptation.

Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" or "Ten Little Indians" has been made into at least five different movies including:

And Then There Were None - 1945
Gumnaam - 1965
Ten Little Indians - 1965
Ten Little Indians - 1974
Ten Little Indians - 1989

It's also been the inspiration for countless mystery and horror movies, most recently Identity and the upcoming Mindhunters.

I would say "The Count of Monte Cristo." The IMDB has at least 13 films listed, and a few TV movies and series.

Does Tarzan count? Considering it was a whole series of books. My vote would be for The Three Musketeers.

Looks like Three Musketeers has got it.
Though I thought Robin Hood had a ton of movie adaptations as well.
