Apex DVD recorder Model DRX 9000- Feedback?

Does anyone know of any details on the Apex DVD recorder?
Are there any problems that have been reported?

This player/recorder hasn't been released yet. It doesn't even have a reliable release date associated with it, I don't think. Best to wait until it's in the hands of actual consumers to look for opinions and problems, that's when they'll show up.

They already are-
They were sold out in a Walmart and said that they will be getting more in soon.

Sorry I know very little about dvd recorders. I am researching because I want to get one but it is all very confusing and few actually want to explain things properly.

I have a Panny DMR-HS2 with the hard drive and have had no problems whatsoever with it. One of the best HT purchases I've done recently.

Why have all the recorders I've seen do recording times like 1/2/4/6 ?

The main thing I want to do is make DVDs of my Star Wars LDs and each one runs a hair over two hours. I don't want to split them over 2 discs either. Do any of them allow variable recording or even allow you to enter a time and it will compute an average record time to maximize disc space?

The newer machines either have variable bit recording or additional modes such as 2.5 hour, etc.

The RAM recorders, Panasonic and Samsung both incorporate "Flexible Recording" which allows the user to enter the recording time, 2:20. The unit will then record at the highest bit rate for the entered time period. Don't buy any recorder that does not incorporate "Flexible Recording", a must for recording movies over 2 hours long.

Toshiba, a RAM recorder, allows the user to select the bit rate, which is essentially the same as "Flexible Recording". The Panasonic E80 with an 80 GB hard drive, progressive scan and many other great features, is a great buy for $535.00. If you don't think you will need a hard drive than the Panasonic E50 for $449.00 is the unit to buy. Good luck.

Ernie6 - off topic here, but where are you finding the Panny E80 for $535?

Thanks in advance!

Supposed to be a fine machine but it has a black level bug that has been widely reported.

The E80 is not in yet but can be found here for the price mentioned

I have never purchased from them so buyer beware

Thanks Brian! Yeah, I've run across ecost before and have always been skeptical about them. I'll pass on them. My local Tweeter is telling me the first week of July for the E80. They're asking list, or $699, for it.

I purchased my Panasonic E 30 player / recorder for e.cost and the service was excellent. I paid the extra $9.95 for FedEx overnight and was recording the day after I purchased the unit.

Obviously, you have to feel comfortable with the retailer you are buying from. $699.00 versus $535.00 is a big difference when the product is identical.
