Harry Potter...how many movies
I really hope they do all 7 movies. Does anyone know if Warner Brothers is doing all 7? I really hope the main three stick around til the end. I hate getting attached to a character and then they replace him, it takes away from the magic and the believability factor.
Know that June 21 is almost here for Book #5(can't wait) does anyone know if she has even started to begin writting Book #6, and when that is expected to be released?

I think J. K. Rowling's writing rate will be the biggest factor in this happening. The UK release dates...
Book 1 - July 1997
Book 2 - July 1998
Book 3 - July 1999
Book 4 - July 2000
Book 5 - June 2003
She was getting them out once a year until this last one, and that took almost three years. At that rate, it'd be 2009 before the final book sees release. Hopefully the next wait will be shorter.

Expect all 7 films. considering the film's haven't catched up or even close to the book releases yet, I think they will be good in how long it takes to spread them out.

Not to mention the fact that the books are getting longer.
Book 1 - 309 pages
Book 2 - 341 pages
Book 3 - 435 pages
Book 4 - 734 pages
Book 5 - 896 pages

The current rumors indicate that Book 4 will be split in two. If that holds true, I imagine Book 5 will be the same way (probably 6 and 7 as well).
So, in theory, there could be anywhere between 7 and 11 films in total.

As for the whole "the books are done" comment. Really, the books are not totally done. she has the general over view of how the story is suppose to go and that is how she is able to write clues in the past books to what will happen, but she still needs to write the books and so forth.

I would certainly expect adaptations of all the future books, but the remaining books may(and IMO most likely will)be split up into 2(maybe even 3!)parts. I don't see how the screenwriter can keep as much material as there is in the remaining books without going over 4 hours.

I hope they do make all the films--especially Goblet--but if they don't, as long as I have the books, I'm good.
As for the lengths of the movies/books, JKR said right after Goblet was released that she always knew it would be the longest, since it was the "middle" book of the whole series. Now that Phoenix ended up being longer, maybe 6 and 7 won't be as much?

As long as the movies make money, I can't see the movies not being made. Since they tend to be one of the top movies of the year when they are released, they are doing pretty good.
I also hope the actors stick with it through the entire series. I think that even if they get well older than the characters, the audience will be forgiving since they are used to them from past movies.

They should definitely split Goblet of Fire up into two movies...maybe release one in the summer and the second half in the fall. They would just have to cut too much out to make one film that was under 3 hours.
Perhaps call the second part "Harry Potter and the Triwizard Tournament" or something like that.
A little off topic, but did anyone else notice that the print in the new novel is like 2 times smaller than the print in previous novels? So even though the new book is only about 100 pages longer than Goblet of Fire, it's GOT to be almost 2 times longer!

Or is it some average words per page times the amount of pages. (Remember chapter beginnings and ending are not full pages.)

So the 5th book is about 33% longer than the 4th. If the type had been the same size as for the 4th book, that would've made the 5th book 980 pages.
So resinrats is right that the book is longer than it appears just from the page count, although he was off by how much longer it is.

Hmmm...
Even though book 5 is longer, I don't see why it needs to be broken into 2 movies. Book 4 had several different threads that would make it easy to split up. Book 5 mainly had 1 ongoing storyline that could easily be condensed into 1 movie. I really hope they keep the same cast but I heard that the first thing she asked for for book 6 was no deadline so I am sure it will take another 3 years if not more .
