With the new Matrix movie, I feel that it's becoming more and more like "Tron."

And people say Equilibrium LOOKS like M:R.

Just saw Equilibrium over the weekend and would agree it's a near clone of Matrix.

But it was still pretty good in it's own right.

The Matrix Trilogy is shaping up to be alot like the Star Wars Trilogy I think. Not that they're about the same thing unless you narrow it down to good vs. evil and the Force/The One. I predict there will be ewoks in Matrix Revolutions.

Dark City by Alex Proyas

Matrix is almost complete plagiarism of Dark City, by the way...

Reeeally.... Don't really see that. There are similarities, but there are also plenty of differences.

Anyway, I suppose it depends on what you are comparing. I mean, you could say A Nightmare on Elm Street is similar to The Matrix because if you die in the dream world, your body dies, too.

And I don't mean just the plot similarities, I'm talking about visuals, specific scenes that were used in Matrix.
Keep in mind Dark City came out before The Matrix.

Do yourself a favor and watch Matrix right after Dark City.

Imaginary Boy: SOME of those shots might look similar, but when you take them in context, they really have nothing to do with each other. The only plot similarity is humans live in a fabricated world and don't know it, and that a single person is able to "save humanity". Even then, the plots of both movies are pretty different.

Sorry, but I still don't see it. I could go through any two movies, regardless of content, and pull just as many of your "similarities." That doesn't mean that one was copied from the other.

Especially after watching the Animatrix, it's uncanny how similar the backstory in the Terminator series is to the Matrix series (i.e. machines vs. man - man leading a resistance in the future against the machine oppressor, etc.)

I think The Matrix and Dark City are different movies that explore the same themes--not even close to plagiarism. The movie Abre los Ojos covered a lot of the same ground a year before Dark City came out, and I'm sure there are movies before that one that play with reality.

Well I just watched Die Hard last night for the first time in awhile. There's a scene where the roof of the building explodes, Bruce Willis swings down on a hose running into the side of the building breaking a window, a helicopter starts crashing and comes down sideways, and Willis has to undo the hose around him before being pulled over the side of the building.

Sound familiar? Doesn't make The Matrix Die Hard though.

The Talosian (buttheads) episodes of Star Trek. They force people to live in a fantasy world so they can breed them. Different techniques, but not that dissimilar.

If you liked the Matrix, you will like the Truman Show. It's the same thing without Keanu "Woah" Reeves and with tv execs replacing the computers.

I don't know, after seeing this image, I'm pretty convinced.

I mean come on, it's a car .... in the rain ... on a dark street ... that's wet ... and there are people inside the car ... and the brake lights are on. It's so obvious, I don't know why I didn't notice it before.

and look at this one! It's a cop! You never see that in a movie!

In spoiler tags just in case people haven't seen Animatrix:

Spoiler:
Based on the info in "The Second Renaissance Parts I & II" the major difference between Terminator and Matrix is the fact that the robots in Matrix were victims of racism and were eventually driven to destroy the humans. In Terminator the machines realized that they didn't need humans.
