The Almighty Phone #...

Thought this story was too funny...it's regarding the number for God as portrayed in Bruce Almighty. It wasn't a 555-number so some people in different area codes actually have the number.

I remember wondering about it while watching the movie. I was thinking it'd be cool if they bought the number out and played a recording or something silly like that... Anyhow:

So uh. . . What's the phone number?

I've read about this a couple of times this past week. What's really funny is that apparently some nutcases think they're actually calling God.

And all this time I thought prayer was the only way to get in touch with The Almighty.

I'm still really curious what the phone number is though.

I can't remember it exactly, but instead of 555, it was 776.

In her Web post, Jenkins, who saw her phone number on the big screen while attending a Bruce Almighty screening on Friday, said, "I emailed Universal Studios about this issue...I think I want payment."
So in other words, she saw dollar signs when she saw her phone number.

I would do the same thing she is doing, and I assume most people here would too. If you were getting a couple hundred calls asking for "God", I think you would be fairly mad at the person who gave out your phone number.

I thought you HAD to use a 555 prefix in the movies.

Cool.

Wasn't there a similar debacle in the early '80s over the Tommy Tutone song 867-5309 (Jenny)?

Just got the DVD of Bruce Almighty. The phone number that is shown in the movie now, is:

555-0123

Creative eh? I noticed even one of the voice overs was changed. Basically Jim going "5-5-5-0-1-2-3?" instead of the original number
Just thought I'd bring this topic back.

I don't understand why they had the change the numbers. The pissed off affected already complained, got their payments, and their numbers changed if it bothered them. What is the point now? It would be like changing the lyrics to the song "Jenny" with the phone number 867-5309. The number is already out there.

Yeah on the Bruce Almighty DVD the Voice over isn't even Jim Carrey and is an AWFUL match. Real poor job on the re-edit

The phone number is very similar to my old cell phone number. Mine was 776-2346.

It's possible that the terms of the settlements included changing the number for video releases.
