"Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" available on DVD (only?) in Canada
For those of you who are not familiar with this film (BALZAC AND THE LITTLE CHINESE SEAMSTRESS), it was released last year in only a few theatres and apparently not too many people saw it. And that is a shame, because I think it is quite a wonderful little movie. In fact, it was nominated at the Golden Globe Awards this year for Best Foreign Film. It is in the Mandarin language, though the film is a co-production between China and France. It stars actors who are unknown to me, but they give good performances and the cinematography is beautiful.
Anyway, I just rented the DVD yesterday and so far as I know it is only available in Canada, from Seville. The transfer quality is very good considering the material, but there is only 3 trailers (for other movies) as extras. Oh, and the menus are only in French, though it does have English subtitles, so don't worry about that. (Oddly though, the packaging says the movie runs 126 minutes, when actually it is only 106 mins.)
I would recommend this movie and the DVD if it sounds appealing to you. Seeing as the disc is Region 1, it can be played on any US DVD player and easily imported into the United States through several online retailers.
Has anyone else seen this film or had a chance to view the DVD? What are your thoughts?

Okay, sorry, my bad. Thanks for correcting me though. But there still is no US DVD however.... I wonder if the transfers are the same on both discs? It says 1.85:1 on that site though, whereas the Seville DVD is definately the correct OAR of 2.35:1. But maybe it was just a typo.
