I've been thinking about a series of awards we could bestow... you know, the Keanu Award for the most amazingly wooden performance, the Cuba Gooding, Jr., award for career immolation, etc.

The first award I'd like to propose is the Sammy -- the Samuel L. Jackson award for bad movie har. Has anyone noticed just how bad his hair is in virtually every film he does? I mean, from his terrific afro in Pulp Fiction, to the bad-hair-day fuzz in Unbreakable, to his amazingly bad Scottish quasi-mohawk in Formula 51... and the great thing is that, no matter what they do to his hair, he still looks so freakin' cool.

Anyway, my nominee for Career Bad Movie Hair goes to Jackson's partner in crime, John Travolta. Let's not even visit the 1970's, as I think none of us would come out favorably. Let's start with the greasy stringy look from Pulp Fiction...

... throw in the buzz-cut from The General's Daughter...

... then get all curly for Michael...

... then there's the page-boy-gone-wrong cut from Swordfish

... and the bowl cut from Lucky Numbers...

And let's not even think about his hair from Battlefield Earth...

Can you think of other nominees for the 1st Annual Sammy Award?

Maybe not career-wide, but Joaquin's 8MM 'do was very much a 'don't'...

Jacksons hairdo in Unbreakable was that way on purpose. Its part of the overall plot.

When he's explaining early in the movie to that guy in his shop about how hero characters always have the squared-jaw and villains always look slightly askew (don't remember his exact words) he was actually pointing out that he was the villain because he was describing himself.

I know it's perfectly appropriate considering the film's subject matter, but Demi Moore's shaved head in GI Jane looked.....strange.
