What will I want to purchase with my HDTV? (on a very tight budget)
I wanted a HDTV under $2,000 that was 48" or larger - the Sony KP-51WS500 seemed acceptable for $1800

I wanted a DVD player for $150 or less, the DVP-NS725P seemed OK to me for $137.

And some component connectors MV3CV-2M for $65

A power strip PowerCenterT HT 800 $80-
I currently have cable TV and don't plan on going to satellite since my apartment is in the interior part of my apartment complex on a lower floor.
Thanks for your help.
(I figure I can haggle GoodGuys or KenKranes down to these prices if I get them all from them. Otherwise I'll just have to buy one thing from each store since these prices were avaialble from various dealers locally and on the net.

Seems fine, you're obviously a Sony person, go with it... You have the basics, down to the prog scan player, covered.
However, you'll need a copy of Avia / Video Essentials or the Sound & Vision Tune-Up disc for the basic video calibrations out of the box...

Exactly what JZ said. Get the Avia disc and you'll be good to go. Seems expensive when you're already breaking the bank (like I did a while back) but it's worth every penny.
You also could get the Acoustic Research component cables and save yourself nearly enough to get the Avia disc. They work just as well, IMO.

Yup, the AR cables will save you some $$$. And there are several well-rated surge suppressors for much less, with ample (even hiogher) joule overload ratings. (I seriously wouldn't sweat the 'polluted AC power" mumbo-jumbo!!!)
For a DVD, I'd pick the Panny RP62 over the Sony. Cheaper & better IMO. Ditto on the Avia recommendation. Also check out hometheaterspot for additional info and recommendations.
