Hanson - From Top of the World to --------

In 1997, Hanson came out of nowhere (their tongue-in-cheek debut album was called Middle of Nowhere) with a massive #1 smash single MMMBop and the Top 10 hit I Will Come To You. Their debut album peaked at #2 on the album chart, and their future seemed assured. They were dubbed the first group born in the 1980's to have a #1 hit in the 1990's, and they played their own instruments. And they were all juveniles, to boot.

Then they got hit with a skunk and released their sophomore album - the album tanked, and the single tanked, and you heard from the Hanson brothers no more.

That was pretty quick. 15 Minutes? You're not kiddin'.

I don't know why, but I've been wondering what happened to them.

They're looking for a label to release it on, last I heard.

Their future seemed assured? Am I the only one who could tell they would forever be known as the Mmmmmmmmbop band no matter what they did from that point forward? Lou Bega had a cd that sold alot of copies as well but I don't think we will be hearing much from him in the future

Ditto for Ricky "Livin La Vida Loca" Martin.

Now, Hanson should become heroin addicts, then fight incessively and break stuff in hotel rooms. Get their mugs plastered on the Enquirer for scandalous behavior.

Then get a recording contract. They'd sell like hotcakes.

The girls in Silverchair were cuter than the girls in Hanson.

Future seemed assured? If I was a betting man I would have laid down a big bit of dough they'd be one hit wonders. Which might be a shame because I believe they probably have some talent there.

Ouch! Silverchair is moving in a good direction. Their newest album is excellent. Nothing you would hear on the radio mind you, but that is preferable to me. Lots of experimentation.

Oh yeah... 'mmmbop, doobie doo bop' - that's talent right there.

I was just trying to be kinda funny... I agree that Silverchair improved quite a bit since their mainstream debut. They're still too pretty for me though... musicians should be ugly.

Trigger... I never did like that MmmBop song... but you gotta admit that these guys for their age were at least talented. It's not something I would want to argue much about because you can say Britney is talented... just a kind of talent I think is many notches below a few kids who can sing and play some instruments decently. I think that's all I can type in favor of them though!!

The Hanson brothers have talent. Kids their age that can play their own instruments and write their own songs have talent. Period. But, you know, even people with talent can release suck-ass material.

I wouldn't say Britney is talented.

I just don't think they were talented. Sure they could play instruments, but big deal... I've seen a little 5 year old asian chicks play the violin like she'd been doing it for decades. Aaron Cometbus was 13 (iirc) when he joined Crimpshrine and I think he was one of the most innovative and talented natural drummers ever. Just cuz a kid can keep a beat and carry a tune doesn't mean he's some prodigy. I'm sure they've gotten better with the instruments, but I highly doubt their cute little voices survived the 'coming of age' thing. It happened to Peter Brady.

Notice how older brother Greg exploited Peter - he made him a gimmick!

And then he dumped Peter's ass and became Johnny Bravo because he fit the suit!

That Greg Brady! Man, did he ever have a far-out physique! Nobody in America could fit that suit. Nobody, that is, except for his father Mike!

See bands like this is my whole problem with people on this board saying the American Idol people are going to do well for the long run.

I applaud the Hanson brothers. They were type-cast into a pop group cause of their age, but they manged to reinvent themselves as a solid rock band. If they stay together, and can live with the fact that they may never top their pre-teen popularity, then they may go on to do great things.

The twin girls in Nelson were the prettiest.

And weren't the Hanson brothers hockey players?
