Why is the Matrix is reloading?

The Matrix needs to be reloaded every 100 years or so. Actually its being upgraded. Why is that? Is it a time-line thing? Such as they don't want the people in the Matrix to live long enough to see the birth of AI and see create another Matrix inside the Matrix. Or is just because it needs to be upgraded every century?

We'll have to wait until Nov to find out... but I think
Spoiler:
its reloading because the Matrix just experienced a complete system failure, after Neo chose not to enter the source and disseminate his code.

Neo is a systemic anomaly... the matrix is almost a perfect mathematical system, but it has some extra code (the anomaly) that gets bigger and bigger as time goes by (ie. neo gets stronger) and if this anomaly is not brought back to the source to have the matrix be reloaded and the code redistributed, than the anomaly will get too large and the system will crash... that is why they must reload the matrix...because the systemic anomaly (Neo's code) is making the system unstable...

So it ends up being like a glitch in the system... if you had glitches on your system, you need to restart to try and fix it, but if you left them all, there would be a good chance your computer could crash... same with the matrix.

I got that they needed to get neo back to the source so that they could contain that 1% who can not accept the matrix and create a system that will be perfect.

either way, think of it as defragging your computer or just a cold reformat. sometimes your hard drive goes bad and you just have to do it.
