Fixing a Proscan PS8680Z DVD/DIVX player?
I'm having a randomly repeating problem with my Proscan PS8680Z DVD/Divx player where an occasional disc will pause/stutter skipping seconds and eventually completely pausing and then stopping altogether. During this, the picture becomes all pixelated in squares.
I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this or if I am going to need a new dvd player. I haven't picked up a lens cleaner and tried that yet; I'm a little doubtful that will work.
I've checked RCA's website and they recommend resetting the player for pretty much every problem encountered. I'm a little hesitant to do this however, as I think that would reset the stupid DIVX system that has been out of commission for a few years. I don't know what will happen to it if I reset it. It might try to contact DIVX and not let me play DVDs until it does.
Does anyone out there have any ideas or suggestions? Should I just try resetting it and cross my fingers? Why would resetting the player fix this problem?
Thanks.
Michael

I picked this up for $250 when Circuit City was having it's fire sale on DIVX players. It was a really good player too, with seamless layer changes. Wish I could help you out.
