I just picked it up myself--I've been waiting for the director's cut ever since I bought my dvd player 6 years ago. The packaging is pretty good--a little on the flimsy side though. A must-own IMO.

My copy hasn't shipped from Columbia House yet, but I'm cuirous: does the little button/latch on the outer sleeve seem like it'll get in the way when the set is shelved along side your other DVDs?

It doesn't really create a problem for me. It just takes up a fraction of an inch more space is all, so no worries.

Has anyone been able to compare it to the Image DTS release? Or seen a review that does make that comparison? I'm interested in PQ and audio.

Not yet and no, that I know of... However, I ordered this for my GF and will do a A/B against the Image DTS release when time allows... Good question though, I'm surprised that none of the reviews that I've seen have done a direct comparison of the two... Can't really comment on the PQ... But, you can be fairly sure that there's no way in Hades that the DD track on this release will match up against the Image DTS release.

I'd say this is probably worth picking up for the extended cut but it's not going to replace my DTS copy anytime soon...

I am very happy with it the picture is excellant and so is the sound. A lot of extras too! I'm kust glad if finally got the treatment it deserves but I was kinda disapointed by the Packaging. The box is very cheapy and Flimsy looking but it's just a slipcase over the regular keepcase so I just threw the slipcase away.

OK, I've watched the whole thing now and really enjoyed it.
--Very good picture/sound quality.
--The 4-hour version does NOT seem like 4 hours and I'm glad to have the extended "director's cut."
--I thought the extras were a little light for having their own disc: some posters, trailers (worst TV spots I've ever seen!), but a very good documentary for some reason broken down into 8 or so smaller parts.
--WELL worth a purchase and will definitely get a second viewing soon.

The video quality is very good but the DD audio is very standard. I've never heard the DTS track but it's got to be better than this. I'm disappointed it wasn't added would have made a perfect DVD

Haven't listened to the commentaries or documentary yet

For some reason, the most interesting extras are hidden.
