Let's make an "American Idol" Drinking Game!
Some of you might find it painful to watch three consecutive nights of AI, so let's a drinking game to help some of you cope.
I don't drink, but I'll start... (I hope my wife doesn't read this...)
Take a thimble-shot of Baccardi whenever Randy says "dawg" or "dude" or "tight" or "doin' yo thang" or "a-ight". Limit 15 per hour.
Double the shot if he hits his chest while saying it.

Take a drink whenever Clay closes his eyes and mouths "Thank You" at the camera.
Take a drink whenever Paula mumbles something incoherently.
Take a drink whenever Simon mentions Paula's mumblings.
Take a drink whenever Ryan Seacrest plugs Junior Idol.

Take a drink everytime Paula says, "You made that song yours"... whatever the eff that means.
Take a drink whenever Simon chastises Ryan or makes a homosexual innuendo to him.
Sadly, I won't be able to drink Monday and Tuesday since I'll be at work but darn if I don't grab a beer for Wednesday night's revelation of the new AI.

OK, here's my version of the American Idol drinking game:
* Take one shot when the opening credits come on
* Continue drinking steadilly and without pause until you pass out or end up weeping and pissing all over yourself as you bemoan the end of quality original programming in our lifetime.
How to tell when you've had enough
* if you start finding Paula Abdul kinda sexy... keep drinking.
* if you find yourself imagining you, Paula and Simon in a three-way... keep drinking.
* if Paula drops out to watch... keep drinking.
* if you find yourself aroused by the thought of what a naked Randy Jackson would look like... IT'S TIME TO PUT AWAY THE BOTTLE.

Take a shot whenever they butcher a decent song with a horrible arrangement.
Take a shot whenever you want to puke at the cheesy background video.
Take a shot every time the audience boos Simon (and an extra shot if either Randy or Paula boos him also).
Take a shot of milk whenever Carmen's singing makes blood spurt out of your ears (ok, I guess that one's for when you're watching the reruns).
Take a shot for every fan-made sign with a bad play on words on a contestant's name.

I'd be blasted by the end of a verse under those rules.

Sooooooo... is anybody even watching tonight's episode? I'm at work (again) and won't be able to view it until I get home to my sweet, sweet Tivo (except it wasn't so sweet last night when I got home to find out Tivo didn't record the two hour special).

Thought Clay was better with their first songs. Judges didn't think so.
I think a big part is them trying to "push" Ruben in small suble ways and trying to not get it to backfire.
I still think Ruben's voice has been too scratchy and a bit out of breath.

I can't believe it, the judges are pushing so hard for Ruben to win, they just keep praising him while they mention every little mistake Clay does. I also think it will backfire and that Clay will win the show.

I don't get it, but I'm not "all knowing".
I think they had a pow-wow meeting beforehand.
They are being carefull to do it subtly so they hope it doesn't backfire, and if it did, they are trying to still be polite enough in case they are "stuck" with Clay as the winner and they could still say he was good.
Neither BLOW ME AWAY.
But I think Clay is outperforming Ruben hands down.

I don't fully understand why Clay has released a single (or prereleased it anyway), which is number one on Amazon.com, and Ruben hasn't. I would think that either they both would release singles, or neither one would. Clay releasing a single would give him an advantage over Ruben, IMO, since he would get airplay, and build more of a fanbase that mightn't watch AI.
As for tonight, I thought that Clay's first song was great, second was okay (a bit dry), and last was not very good (didn't like the arrangement). For Ruben, his first two performances were okay (didn't like the arrangement for Imagine either), but his last one was great.
I didn't see the judges favor Clay at all. I think that Clay had a better night, but overall, I would much rather listen to Ruben that Clay. If I could vote, my vote would be for Ruben.
I expect it to be close, but Clay is going to win.

Actually, Ruben has a single up at Amazon too, but his isn't in the top ten. (It's currently number 46.) His is called Flying Without Wings/Superstar. I was under the impression that only the winner's single would be released from a post here last week, but both show at Amazon as 6/3 releases.

It's ranked #46. Is this an omen or is it just because no one knows about it?

I guess I just don't connect to Ruben's singing, for me, it's a chore to listen to the big guy. I mean I just don't even recall what it was he was singing afterwards. Nothing Ruben sings is all that memorable to me.
On Clay's first song (sort of trite), he worked it enough to make the chorus soar. On that second song, he was working the different range angle, but not the greatest song to be showing off that part of your range. On his third song, it was teed up, and Clay knocked it out of the park, that was the kind of finish that stays with listeners. Clay was smart to go second with he won the coin flip last night because he was able to not only get in the last note, but to do it so well.
So, obviously Clay's got my vote (though I was shut out of the voting from the constant busy signals).
Why does Simon look like he doesn't want to be there when the guys are singing? He looks positively bored with the whole ordeal.
