20, but I won't bother naming them all. I don't think all of these are "cult" movies--I wouldn't include Willy Wonka, Scarface, Blade Runner, Shawshank, Clerks or Friday on this list. These are all pretty popular films, and I'd make arguments for others that are missing as well. Off the top of my head, I'd immeadiately say where's Howard the Duck? :)

1.This is Spinal Tap - Seen enough to say, "Feh."
3.Freaks - Only interesting to see the real-life freaks
6.The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The granddaddy of slasher pics.
7.Repo Man - Okay
8.Scarface - Pacino was hysterically bad, but so was everyone else.
9.Blade Runner - Good
10.The Shawshank Redemption - Excellent
11.Five Deadly Venoms - Wow! 11th place! My favorite of the chopsockies.
16.The Warriors - One of my favorite all-time movies
19.Evil Dead 2 - Not great. The first one was worlds better.
24.The Toxic Avenger - Garbage
25.Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - A classic.
27.Dawn of the Dead - Excellent
28.The Wiz - Yuck
29.Clerks - Bleah
31.Slap Shot - Good movie, but it's been a long time since I've seen it.
32.Re-Animator - Good
36.Showgirls - Crap. Not cult-status crap, just crap crap.
38.They Live - "I have come to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum."
43.The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Demension - Just okay.
50.Faces of Death, Vol 1 - Used to love this stuff when I was a teenager. Now I can't stomach it. A lot of it was fake anyway.

Too lazy to list them all but I've seen 33 out of 50. Not bad.
I only own 6 of them on DVD though. I'm waiting for the release of Freaks and Faster Pussycat! Kill Kill! and the special editions of Blade Runner and Dawn of the Dead.
Um, Shawshank Redemption is a cult film? Ok, it didn't find its audience until video but in my mind that does not make it a cult film. It really sticks out like a sore thumb on that list.

It's definitely a questionable list. Lots of what I'd consider fairly mainstream movies in there. That's EW for you. I've seen 39 of them.

I own 21 of them. It's a pretty nice list, all things considered - while almost anyone who knows anything about movies would consider Rocky Horror and Pink Flamingos to be classic cult films, it takes a real movie geek to consider films like They Live, Buckaroo Banzai, and Big Lebowski. I'm surprised River's Edge or Hedwig didn't make the list. Oh, well, this gave me some more ideas for my "want" list.

Some interesting definitions of "cult" in there. Surprised to see 'Spinal Tap' beat "Rocky Horror". I'd expect to see "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" work its way up that list in time.
I have seen 35 of these movies, and I own 17 of them.

What do you guys consider cult films? For me, I've consider them a film of immense popularity, with little box-office fan-fare, or maybe even something that went straight to rental. I have to admit, I consider myself pretty well-versed in film, but you guys mention stuff I've never heard of.
Obviously, it's open to interpretation judging by the list that EW provided.

Not one person I noticed from a quick skim of this thread mentions having seen, let alone owning, Walking and Talking. Geofferson mentions seeing it indirectly in that it didn't make his "not seen" list.
Too bad, its a terrific little film.
However, there is no way it is more deserving in being on this list than a number of other far more popular "cult" films (the oft-mentioned Swingers being one of them).
I have seen 28 and own several, including Walking and Talking, on DVD.

ANIMAL HOUSE, ENTER THE DRAGON were big blockbuster hits, so they can't be cult movies.
SOMEWHERE IN TIME from 1980 was a huge bomb, got it's following on cable. Even the Spec. Ed. dvd talks about the following this movie has.
What's so hard for getting these Movie Lists right?
AFI is always crap, but EW?

Ive seen about 90% of them and own about 30% of them, great list even though Boogie Nights should be on there, but maybe that was a little to popular and fightclub should be on there also.
