Anyone know when TMR will be playing at the Loews IMAX Theatre on 1998 Broadway & 68th Street? The IMAX official website says The Matrix Reloaded: The IMAX Experience - June 2003, but when I search moviefone.com for it, it says it's already playing. Is this just the normal version of the film, or is it the IMAX enhanced version?

I am 100% sure it's the normal version. I've seen the Star War movie in that IMAX room and I say it suck. I'll take the huge widescreen room in the same theatre over the IMAX room anytime for a normal movie.

The "IMAX Experience" will be a cleaned up version with IMAX theatres in mind. They've even redesigned the platters to hold more film so that the Matrix may be shown in its entirety. (Unlike the Star Wars and LOTR films, which had to either be shortened or have intermissions to change out the reels.)

But what's the deal with the OAR of Reloaded? Isn't IMAX like a big 4:3 TV with a concave, non-flat screen? Is it just a gimmick? I thought us purists that we call ourselves DVDTalkers dismissed marketing scams such as this. Someone please explainto me the advantages of watching Reloaded on IMAX as opposed to the normal fare at my local theater?

Because you get to see all the eye candy on a bigger screen.

I love going to see regular movies shown on the IMAX screen. Yes, you in effect have a letterbox look, but it is still a huge image, and the sound is so much better. I've seen stuff like Spiderman, Daredevil, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Pearl Harbor, etc. My theater only charges $.50 more, and I think it is worth it.

As for reformatting stuff for the IMAX like they are doing with Reloaded, I haven't seen one of those. If they don't lose any content, I'm definitely going to see it.

Saw "Minority Report" on an IMAX screen. It was not formatted for IMAX. The Image quality was actually pretty good. It was in it's intended aspect ratio (which seemed to irritate some of the necks in the theater, but pleased me).

My only complaint was the audio.....just didn't fill the room correctly. If you look at the IMAX speakers, they are very front heavy, with rear/side speakers in the back corners.....at least at the few I've been to. I'm thinking a Dolby Digital/SDDS/THX etc. track is intended for a wall of speakers (similar to a 5.1 surround sound) environment. I'm pretty sure that we were not getting the complete audio mix.

Now, if they remaster it for IMAX (which is what I heard), I'M THERE!

In dallas the IMAX here has 11,000 watts of sound. Its by far the best sound system I've ever heard and worth seeing movies there for that alone.

Apollo 13 is playing at the IMAX, and I hear it is awesome.

"IMAX announced Wednesday that the much anticipated "Matrix: Reloaded" and "Matrix: Revolutions" will be released on IMAX's big screens this year. IMAX's new technology allows for 35mm transfer to the big IMAX screen without losing any quality. "Matrix: Reloaded" is scheduled to debut on IMAX on June 6th. "Matrix: Revolutions" will debut on IMAX the same day it debuts in regular theatres; Noevember 5th."
