Longest stretch between sequels?

It's been twelve years since the last Terminator movie and it'll be at least 15 years since the last Indy flick. Are these the longest stretches between sequels? I know the Alien series has had a couple of seven year ones as well.

Terms of Endearment and its sequel (I forgot the name). I think it's about 20 years or so.
Blue Brothers and Blue Brothers 2000. Also about 20 years.

Not the longest but The Two Jakes followed 16 years after Chinatown.

I am astonished that it has been that long since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade came out... not to mention T2. My first thought was Last Picture Show and Texasville, but heck, that was only 19 years.

Never mind... I hadn't had my morning coffee.

The sad thing is that my job requires me to work with numbers on a regular basis.

The Hustler -> Color of Money (25 years) is as long as The Parent Trap -> The Parent Trap II. Same years ('61, '86) too.

Actually

Terms of Endearment and The Evening Star were only 13 years apart.

The first one I thought of was Phantasm and Night of the Living Dead, but they were
9 years
Phantasm 1979
Phantasm II 1988

and 10 years
Night of the Living Dead 1968
Dawn of the Dead 1978

Wasn't The Parent Trap 2 a made-for-tv sequel? If we include those (which I don't think we should), what about Scarlett?

My first thought also but I could have sworn I have seen this question asked either here ages ago or over on HTF or on Usenet and someone came up with one or two even farther apart then the Fast Eddie Felson saga.

Yeah, but KSM was re-made in the mid 80s so you'd have to decide which Alan Quartermain was Sean Connery acting more like.

Some of Disney's recent sequels have got to be strong contenders.

The Jungle Book (1967)
The Jungle Book 2 (2003)
36 years

Peter Pan (1953)
Return to Never Land (2002)
49 years

Cinderella (1950)
Cinderella 2: Dreams Come True (2002)
52 years

Dumbo (1941)
Dumbo 2 (upcoming I believe)
62 years and counting

Cinderella 2 was direct to video, and Dumbo 2 probably will be as well (assuming I didn't make it up, but I swear I remember it being mentioned), so they might not count. The other two were released theatrically though.

I've heard that Dumbo 2 might have been ditched, but it was DEFINITELY on the planning board for some time. The Dumbo DVD even has a little bit on what they were (maybe 'are') planning to do.

But since, I've heard rumors that they discarded it as it wasn't working. In any event, it would have been direct-to-video, and it would be the longest time between sequels I can think of.

"Wizard of Oz" and "Return to Oz" (46 years) is up there, too.

57 years passed between the release of 1939's GONE WITH THE WIND and the 1996 sequel, SCARLETT.

Why don't we narrow it down to sequels that feature the same actor/actress playing the same character that they did in the original. I personally don't think cartoons should count.

Django (1966) and Django Strikes Again (1987) 21 years between them. The title character in both was played by Franco Nero and yes I know there was a massive amount of unofficial sequels that had nothing to do with the orginal excpet to cash in on the orginals success though there were some good ones.
