My main problem with the first X-men movie was that is was so devieated from the comic and the cartoon. It took it's own tangent and it was a slight aversion for me. The fact that X-2 stayed along those lines and didn't try to correct it was a smart move.
Although I liked a lot of what was done in X-2 Pyro's power hungry attitude and the Jean Grey Phoneix Force Development I have to say that I still prefered Reloaded better. Although both were glorious eye candy I like the thought provoking issues that the Matrix offers the viewers.

I liked X2 more. The special effects in Matrix Reloaded outdid X2 obviously, but the dialogue/story in X2 was miles above Reloaded IMO. I was literally shifting in my seat waiting for the next action scene in Reloaded because of the horrible dialogue (especially within Zion), while with X2 I was just captivated from beginning to end.
I swear I would have loved Reloaded better had it been all action, no Zion and not having everything laid out on the table in the last 10 min. It's pretty poor when you jammost of the meat of the story into the last 10 min. of a film (although Neo's talk with you know who in the middle would be the other meat of the story and was far more comprehendable).
Revolutions will most likely tie up loose ends, but they really should have fleshed out the story more over the whole Reloaded movie instead of jamming it into 2 places. The SFX on the other hand were simply awesome. Not since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has hand-to-hand looked this awesome.
Just my opinion though.

Well, after seeing X2 last week, I couldn't wait to see it again.
After seeing Reloaded 2 nights ago, I still couldn't wait to see X2 again.

As a life-long X-Men fan (I'm 38) I have to say that I thought X-Men and X-Men II were both L A M E.

I voted for X2 being mildly more enjoyable. This is based on seeing X2 twice and Matrix Reloaded only once (I'll see it *at least* once more, though). Random thoughts:
Both had endings that make me wanna see part 3 in the series, but X2's ending (final shot) was just........cooler.
X2 was better than its predecessor; TMR wasn't as good as Matrix 1.
In the thread that asked, "Which movie are you more excited about," I answered TMR, so maybe my higher expectations for this flick factor into my slight disappointment.
X2 had fewer groan-inducing moments than TMR, which had The "rave scene" and the least sexy sex scene I've ever seen, the "Let's try and force the audience to care about the personal life of this new Link fellow" sequences, the obscenely dragged-out segment with that obnoxious, accented prick (only partially redeemed by my fascination with his wife's considerable cleavage), etc.
It might take an extra viewing of TMR for me to up my rating of it, or it might take until "Revolutions" comes out for things to fall into place for me. We shall see.

X2!
Why? Because it made me want to see everything it offered again, so I seen it 3x.
TMR, was a good film, "B-" in my opinion, but there was no wow! factor, either in story or effects, although it had nice effects.
The overhypeing of TMR killed its B.O. in a week or two.
I'll admit that Revolutions does look excellent, but I can wait.
Where's X3?

X2 was better. Matrix got off to slow and the dialogue wasn't as great. morpheous ain't no martin luther king.

Well I saw X2 twice on opening day, and now I've seen the Matrix Reloaded three times in the three days it's been open.. I love both films, but honestly, I can't stop thinking about the Matrix... I think it's a more substantial movie in the larger scheme of things... X2 was more fun, but if I had to pick a favourite, it's The Matrix Reloaded.

Both where enjoyable enough for a second viewing but I think Reloaded was a bit better especially in the long run once Rev.hits in Nov. it will make Reloaded a even better movie as where X-men can go on forever like the comics,so I picked TMR.

Well, my vote made it 33/33. I saw X2 last night and didn't enjoy it no where near as much as the Matrix 2. I do admit the ending to X2 was awesome. I just enjoy the Matrix movies more 'cause of the psychological aspects.
Also, just to take a quote from this thread from inVectiVe...
"X2 was better than its predecessor; TMR wasn't as good as Matrix 1."
X2 was a damn fine movie, but the first one wasn't close to being great. While the first Matrix was. It's a lot harder for a sequel to be better than a great movie then a good movie.
I also agree that the 3rd Matrix might make the 2nd even better.

I agree. :)
I compare each film to its "Part 1" to show that it's hard to be completely objective when comparing these two "Part 2s." It's like, people online are more likely to bash Star Wars Episode I and II than they are to criticize, say, ID4 (or at least, that's my impression). But are the SW prequels really "worse" than Independence Day?! I'd argue "No" - just that TPM and AOTC have the Disappointment / Overhype Factor working against them.
I share the opinion that The Matrix (the original) is "better" than the first X-Men movie. So, in a way, this gives X2 an unfair advantage over Reloaded.

I think we also have to keep in mind that these preferences are entirely subjective and varies from person-to-person. I don't think I can really knock a guy who really loves M:R more than X2 or vice-versa. It just depends what kind of movies you like.
One person was saying the because you can deconstruct M:R and it require more thought, then it is a superior movie. But, at the same time, that deconstruction can actually take away the enjoyment for that movie, as it apparently did.
I like X2 for it's ability to fit a lot of story into 2 hours and keeping the pace fairly quick. I like M:R for its paradigm-shifting storyline.
I think really the only thing going against M:R is the amount of time spent telling the story vs. fighting/SFX/beauty shots. But, I think directors like the Wachowskis and Peter Jackson and the like are famous for this. But it seems people like it.
