One song in particular I'm surprised was a commercial hit:
Hemmhorage by Fuel. It actually reached the Top 20! It's a great song, but totally unconventional.

One song I'm surprised didn't crack the Top 40:
Girl All The Bad Guys Want by Bowling For Soup. The song was played on every radio station, in heavy rotation, yet failed to crack the Top 50. Go figure.

No, it never did crack the Top 50.

Never heard of that second song, and I'm not surprised Fuel's song was a hit. I heard it all the time, and it's a great song.

Not sure if this is related, but I thought it pretty interesting that the O Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack sold so well, and there were no singles on the radio. CMT played Constant Sorrow from time to time, but I even recall reading a newspaper article about how country radio stations practically refused to play anything from it.

I find most country music to be offensively pedestrian, but the O Brother soundtrack is one of my favorite albums.
