I went down to the convention center to pick up my badge holder and me and my buddies were able to walk up to the doors. Sony had just turned on their projection screens and were testing them out with the previews and they showed about 30 secs. of gameplay and it's looking very very good. Until there's an available download, the UNOFFICIAL WORD is it looks to be half 2D and half 3D. And it does have a subtitle already. We were just too far to read it.

I think the subtitle is "Hip Hop Beat of Doom".

The EGM preview said it was 3D, not psuedo-3d like Contra.

Castlevnia in 3D....ewww.... They should've learned from the N64 version...Castlevania can only be in 2D (like Symphony of the Night).

The big man himself is doing this one, the Castlevania's on 64 weren't ... he even said that he doesn't like those.
We'll see how it goes.

After looking at the new screens, I now can say that I'm definitely excited. It really *is* like Symphony of the Night in 3-D!
Is it just me or does this look a whole lot like DMC, even that rock looking thing looks like one of the bad guys of DMC2.

From GameSpot: "As far as the structure of the game is concerned, it seems that it's not entirely modeled after Symphony of the Night in that it's more linear and there are less RPG elements. "
Boo.

Yay!! More linear!! I hate games that give you choices on where to go, or let you explore.
 to Konami.

*In other news, Capcom has decided to hand over the Devil May Cry property to Konami, to which Konami responded "mind if we call it Castlevania now"?*
3D, swords, linear, dude with white hair...this IS devil may cry.

I really don't have high hopes for this. I really hoped it would be 2D, and it looks way to much like DMC (especially with the "1 Hit" things which would seem to be indicative of a combo system) which I hated with a passion.
Still it is by the guy behind Symphony of the Night, so I'll hold out some hope that it will be decent and wait until playing it (or at least getting more info/impressions of the gameplay rather than just screenshots) before writing it off completely.

Well, my interest just went down the toilet.
From the Gamers.com (http://www.gamers.com/game/1322553/) impressions:
That's the one concession to RPG-style character progression in Lament of Innocence. Though he's the one who originally introduced more complex character development to the series, Igarashi is choosing to focus more closely on action with this game, leaving out the experience points and expansive inventories of his earlier games. Leon Belmont is a more simple, streamlined hero than his descendants, despite his somewhat overly accessorized design, which perhaps better suits his status as the founder of the lineage.
Some will doubtless miss the more complex gameplay of Symphony of the Night and its like, but just as many might prefer the return to straight action. Lament of Innocence certainly has that, mixing battles with familiar Castlevania grunts and hulking bosses.
The only Castlevania games I've liked were Symphony of the Night and the GBA games that had the RPG-style gameplay. Since the new game doesn't have that and is just straight action, I have no interest in it.
Sounds like it really is a DMC clone after all. :(

I was really going to buy a PS2 for this game.. every time a new bit of information is released about it, my wallet signs a breath of relief.

It looks alright. Nothing special. I'm looking foward to Ninja Gaiden (with Ayane!) alot more than this.
Hmm. Leon is using a whip so maybe it's more a Rygar clone than a DMC clone. Rygar was better anyway...

I appreciate innovation and all, but GOING BACKWARDS is not innovative!

Kyo, not a whip.. sword. (at least in the above shots)
Wait.. Ninja Gaiden with Ayane? :whofart:

The sword is not big deal, as Alucard used swords in Symphony of the Night so I considered it a return to that.
But I don't like action games, so the lack of RPG elements will keep me from playing this.

In the latest shots I saw at IGN (the Castlevania Dungeon has one up), Leon is using a whip. I guess you get to choose if you want to be Dante or Rygar.
Oh, and Hayabusa is still the lead character in Ninja Gaiden, but Ayane has appeared in CG for. I hope she plays a big role in the story. She's my favorite.

I know you're not a big fan of contemporary RPGs yet I can't help but get the feeling you were being sarcastic.
