I know some of the bands like the Police are putting out video anthologies, but I'd like to see a lot of the one - hit wonder videos such as:

Twilight Zone - Golden Earring
Mexican Radio - Wall of Voodoo
Turning Japanese - The Vapors
I don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats
Talk Talk - Talk Talk
Big Country - Big Country

and some of the other big 80's bands or stars as well:
INXS
The Fixx
Devo
Talking heads
Billy Idol
Duran Duran
Naked Eyes

Golden Earing isn't a one hit wonder, Radar Love was a much bigger hit than Twilight Zone. Didn't they have another hit too?

I would love it if there was a channel devoted to showing videos and then I wouldn't have to buy them on DVD. Too bad MTV and VH1 have turned into the game show network.

Amen, brother.
I wish there was a "retro" MTV-style channel that just showed music videos, circa the early-to-mid '80s.

Both of the above mentioned releases seem decent, but very limited in their selection. They should put out a box-set or something.

As for the above comment about Golden Earring- I know White Lion did a remake of Radar Love in '89 that was pretty popular. But as far as the 80's go, Golden Earring's only hit was Twilight Zone in 1982. Golden Earring's version of Radar Love was released in 1973. As for that, the rest of their music was pretty crappy. I made the mistake of buying their greatest hits - which was let's see, oh yeah, Twilight Zone and Radar Love.

dont forget EBN-OZN's "A.E.I.O.U." and "Baglady". or the first few videos from IceHouse. and ya gotta have Clash. Madness and Haircut 100 bring back a few memories too. I got the pleasure of being about 20 years old during the first year of MTV....and they've been crap since 1986, for me. those early years when they would show "Ashes to Ashes" every hour:lol:.

It's on digital cable too. They also show 60s videos. They have specific hours of certain decades (We are the 80's, Super 70s, '60s - I can't remember the name of the 60s show). On Tuesdays they play twofers all day.

I agree 100% with all of these! I believe I read something about DM's 101 will be released this year.

U2's Live Under a Blood Red Sky is a must have.

Love to see The Cure In Orange, too.

Our gang after roller skating went a friends house to see the beginning of MTV. First song was "Video Killed the Radio Star by the one hit wonder "The Bugles".

I have Prince, Madonna, Micheal Jackson (including Thriller), Def Leppard, ABBA, The Carpenters, Stevie Nicks on DVD.

Couple of vhs tapes crammed full like Dennis De Young, John Cougar Mellencamp, Bon Jovi etc.. I have tons of music, I recorded on 'line' on Vhs T-200 good for 10 hours. My TV was busted but the audio still came thru, and I recorded just the music on 'line' with no video signal; talk about 'workarounds'. Man what a workout using the hackers drink cola to stay up recording all night! YO :)

I have that, along with Devo and B52s, on VHS, but would love to upgrade to DVD. I'd like some of those others, as well, although overall, where available, I prefer DVDs that feature all the videos from one (or a few if necessary) groups to one video per group.

Okay, here's what I would love to have.

Collections of videos by year and theme, like this:

MTV's Headbanger's Ball 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990... and so on.
MTV's 120 Minutes 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990... and so on.

With each DVD having approximately 40 videos. And each DVD could use the old intros and graphics, maybe even clips of the hosts and guest bands. I can even smell boxed sets.

It's like, what the else are the record companies doing with these videos? Let them put out cheap compilations. It might drum up interest in the bands and albums.

I really want Devo - The Compleat Truth about De-Evolution. It's been released on LD, and I really want it on DVD. Every video, plus absolutely tons of extras.

It was rumored that a live concert was recorded and was to be released on video along with the live concert (Now It Can Be Told) but it got shelved for some reason. How about a live concert released on DVD.

THORN EMI VIDEO (Remember that ol' company that was out during the birth of VHS?) came out with a collection of Duran Duran videos from back in the day:

Rio
Planet Earth
Lonely in your nightmare
Careless Memories
My Own Way
Hungry Like the Wolf
Nightboat
Girls on Film (Uncut) http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/images/smilies/sbf.gif
Save a Prayer
The Chauffeur (Uncut)
Is there something I should know?

I'd love to pick up a remastered DVD of that collection.

I'd buy it. I love everything about the 80's, especially the music. I never got to see many of the music videos for my favorite 80's musicians though, so something like this would be really cool.

Yeah, and the reason there weren't three good songs on that disc is because they left off WHEN THE LADY SMILES, which was a great song and a great video.

TWILIGHT ZONE is still their best song and one of the best videos ever made......

DOH! You beat me to the punch. :) This is the DVD I'd love to see, I still have the VHS...somewhere. Don't know if I could find where it is if I had a gun to my head unfortunately. Definately my all-time favorite music video tape, with the Billy Idol "Vital Idol" being second, I got that for my sis back in the day. Actually, now that I recall, I had the DD "Decade" VHS too.

EMI is prepping a DVD release of Duran Duran's Greatest collection that was released on VHS a few years ago. Aside from a VCD import, this title was only available on VHS. It's being released sometime this Fall, although a definite release date is still pending.

It contains...

Girls On Film (Uncensored)
The Chauffeur (Uncensored)
Hungry Like The Wolf
Save A Prayer
Rio
Is The Something I Should Know?
Union Of The Snake
New Moon On Monday
The Reflex
Wild Boys (Extended Version)
A View To A Kill
Notorious
Skin Trade
I Don't Want You Love
All She Wants Is
Serious
Burning The Ground
Ordinary World
Come Undone

The Cure - Staring at the Sea

While Hans Zimmer "collaborated" with Trevor Horn on The Age of Plastic album, but was never a formal part of the Buggles. Zimmer also worked with Ultravox and David Byrne in a similar collaborator/producer role.

He also produced the greatest Shriekback single ever: Nemesis!

Bougt? Sigh. It's bought! ;)

Hans Zimmer and Warren Cann, the drummer for Ultravox, formed a duo called "Helden" and recorded an album. Unfortunately it was never properly released, and we folks in the Ultravox fan community have been crying for someone to release it ever since. Every couple of years it looks like it will finally see the light of day, then it doesn't. :(

I still have the Beta version. The Betamax machine still works, but I'd spring for a new DVD copy. I have lots of other 80s Beta and VHS tapes I'd love to see on DVD:

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas
John Cougar Mellencamp - Ain't That America
Fleetwood Mac - (self titled documentary & live concert)
Blondie - Eat to the Beat

and numerous videos from:

Cinderella
L.A. Guns
Skid Row
Squeeze
Poison

I know a few of these have the odd DVD out, but I'd line up to buy re-issues of the old tapes.

Almost forgot (duh!) #1 want would be Warren Zevon's MTV concert (Sony issued it on VHS). They could even toss in the 2-3 individual videos he's done and I'd be a happy camper.

Actually, I recall the song Quiet Eyes, originally on the Golden Earing albim "The Hole", getting a lot of air play back in 1986. While it wasn't of the same quality as Twilight Zone, I think it was considered a hit.

Incidentally, Golden Earing has been around since the early 60's. Their discography is quite extensive and it is my understanding that they are very popular in Holland. I would tend to agree with you though, regarding the rest of their music. Definitely an aquired taste.
