Movies that really make you think...

... about how society really has changed over the years. The most recent that comes to mind is Rabbit-Proof Fence. The story of how 3 girls travel 1,500 miles in Australia from a "prison-camp of sorts" back to their home.

Most people turn their noses up if someone asks them to walk a couple blocks. Let alone 1,500 miles!!! Crazy.

What other specific movie subjects get you thinking about how society has changed over the years?

Mississippi Burning - The fact that this movie is based on a true event sends shivers down my spine.

Lawrence of Arabia - The west in conflict with arabs

Schindler's List - Buying people to save them from certain death.

I think the real surprising thing about Rabbit Proof Fence is that it shows how Eugenics and passive ethnic cleansing was tollerated up untill the 1970's in a country that today has shifted to being the most bleeding heart sensitive nation in the world to native people

Rocky_Stallone makes me want to stay away from drugs...

No! No! Just kidding. I just could not resist.

For me, I was amazed and astonished at Memento. I walked out of the theater... literally feeling like a changed man. If you have not seen this film, go see it.

Lawrence of Arabia - The west in conflict with arabs
Didn't T.E. Lawrence help the arabs fight against the Turks?

Movies like Scooby-doo do that to me all the time. In fact, they mostly make me realize how we never will really evolve as a specie.

Why do they spend so much money on such a bad movie when somewhere, children are dying of hunger or lack of proper healthcare?
Other than the owner of the rights for Scooby-doo licensed products, who really did call for such a movie?
And why did they plan a sequel?
Has our society not yet understood the evil of such things?

I have some friends that are actually just like this. They're not dumb or anything either - they just don't feel that movies are something to think about. They'll tell me: "You can keep your independant and foreign movies, just give me Brukhiemer and I'm happy."

Amazing.

Yes he did, but theres a general theme running throughout the movie about the differences between the arabs and the west.

Except for the lesbian love scene, of course, which is the greatest four minutes of filmmaking the world has ever seen.
