Odd DVD player problem

Ok, so after my Panasonic DVD-RV31's motor went out, I pulled out my old Philips DVD 825 player to see if I could get that one to work. I put a DVD in, and it spins it and tries to read it but never does. HERE'S THE KICKER..... If I put in a burned CD it will read it with no problem!!!! Could I have messed up my region code or something. I know the player works, cause it plays VCDs/MP3 CDs/Audio CDs just fine, as long as they are on CDR/RWs it won't read any professionally pressed discs.....Any ideas on how to fix this?

ummmmm....ooooooook. Correction....Every DVD EXCEPT the Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring Extended Version doesn't work on my player. I'm not complaining, but I think it's odd that it will read these discs, but not other DVDs
