My family's laserdisc player finally gave up the ghost a few months ago, so I'm inhereting a giant chunk (around 75) of our collection. The problem is, of course, that I don't have a LD player :) Anyone got any suggestions as to good models floating around eBay or anywhere else? My two biggest criteria are price (the lower the better - some of us are poor soon-to-be graduates) and the ability to read both sides of the disc without flipping. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Do a search for laserdisc in this forum and you'll find a lot of recent threads that start with questions similar to yours

Whats your budget? Do you need DTS/AC-3 compatability? Alot of times, you can get decent players for $75 or under if you dont need DTS/AC-3. My advice is stay away from ebay. I bought 3 players off there in the past two years, and recieved two of them broken. Could be bad luck or bad shipping, but you have alot of other options. Look at pawn shops near you. Also look at local newspaper and internet classifieds. other great places to look are Home theater forum and Audiogon. The players are usualy more expensive, but you will get good gear packed and shipped right. I bought my last player off Audiogon. Alot of guys there used to use LD players as CD transports due to their stability. I got a brand new unit with DTS/AC-3 capability for 110.00 shipped from a guy there.

If you can spend around $250, the Pioneer CLD-D704 is the best bang-for-your-buck machine out there.
