what is DTS 96/24 and do I need it ?

Im going to get my first A/V Receiver ( was going to get Denon 1803) and need to know whether DTS 96/24 is an important feature to have or just a marketing gimick.

I dont upgrade my systems often so need to decide whether to get this feature now

Thanks

Digital Theater System is what it stands for, your worry is not the equipment you buy, but the DVD players out put. My Sony CX-875 Sony's newest DVD changer the 2003 model.

When you play sound tracks with a 96kHz
sampling frequency, the output signals from the coaxial or optical jack are converted to 48kHz sampling frequency.

Member make sure the DVD player will not do the same, or whatever your buying will end up as above. Information (proof) found at back of CX-875 owners manual on 'specs' of model. I hope this helps you in your search.
