Coline Serreau's CHAOS

Saw a preview of this 2001 French film when was at DC's Visions Theatre last weekend and I was curious if anyone has seen this film. The preview looks really fascinating. Anyone?

Giles, you posted this eons ago, but we just watched it on DVD last night (finally came out on disc). Did you ever see it? I thought this movie was great. When it started and it was obviously filmed on digital tape (something I'm still not used to... still like regular film!), I was put off a little. But it was impossible not to be gripped by the whole story. An easy recommendation.

Giles,

I am sort of on the fence with this one. It was shot with a digital camera and at times the film has the feel of a documentary about the immigrant struggle many Africans go through while living in France (though this is not the main focus of the film). Furthermore, a few times I caught myself thinking how much Chaos reminded me about Our Lady of Assassins...same digital/documentary look.

The story was not exceptional (which goes for the performances as well) though far from being mediocre. I will give the film a chance if you have nothing else to watch however do not expect a cinematic masterpiece. All in all I would give it a 5 1/2 out of 10.

It's an entertaining film, but a bit over the top and the story is kind of all over the place. It turns out to be a girl's revenge film/fantasy type thing. I'd rent it (I did).

That's one thing I liked about it... fast-paced and there were a lot of different levels to the story
