Stupid Cable connection q?
It has been a long while since I have had a cable box, so I am rusty. A friend at work just got a Hitachi 51UWX20B and he is trying to hook up his digital cable(not HD) and vcr.
The Hitachi has ant A and Ant B on the back a coax out. What is the best way to hook up the coax to the digital box, vcr and tv so he can record from the box and watch something different at the same time.
He tried coax from wall to TV ant A; out from tv to Cable Box; out of cable box to VCR; out of vcr to TV ant B. But he said this did not work. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW I beleive it is a Scientific Atlanta digital box.

If you are using coax (75 ohm) connections:
Wall ---> Cable Box
Cable Box (out) ---> VCR ANT (in)
VCR ANT/TV (out) ---> TV ANT A
If your friend also uses an antenna for offf the air broadcasts, then connect the antenna to the cable box (ANT in).
The above setup will allow him to watch & record from:
Antenna
Cable Box
and watch video tapes.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Sonicflood. Will this allow him to record one channel and watch another?

Since he is utilizing a cable box, then the answer probably is no. The cable box 'feeds' the signal to the other components and it's used to change channels (not the TV or VCR tuner). If it is only needed to access premium channels, then you can watch one channel and record a different one at the same time. The other option would be to have two cable boxes.
Can he access any channels via a direct connection to the coax from the wall? If the answer is yes, then he could watch whatever channels are accessable via this direct connection, thus bypassing the cable box.
Let me know & I'll try to assist.
