There are songs I like as an ADULT and have no clue what they are singing about. Actually, I prefer this most times. A turn off to me is a story song that is so detailed and specific it's boring listening to more than a couple of times.

As a kid... "Blinded By the Light" had me confused.

Hmm...

"Jack and Diane" by Mellancamp. It's not that I didn't understand the lyrics (which I guess I probably didn't), but I thought he was singing about my mom.

Any song with sexual innuendo.

I still don't know the lyrics in Smells Like Teen Spirit

Though sometimes that cooler than knowing every single lyric. Sometimes that 'noise' just seems better, yet once you understand the lyrics it seems different then.

Such as you start humming along to a song..catcing the pitch just right, yet still you don't know the exact words if anyone asked.

Anyway songs i heard the lyrics to but it didn't register to me exactly what they were about were "Lola" by i think it's The Kinks right?...& "Walk on The Wild Side" by Lou Reed.

I love both songs..yet as a kid. I started thinking about them..& got confused at first, yet soon finally understood them.

Also some lyrics in "Janies Got A Gun" i still don't understand since it's hard to hear exactly what he's saying with the music & everything so loud & blending for that beautiful 'noise'. + the album does not come with the lyrics printed in the booklet!

Though it didn't hit me until just this year what that song was really about!

"Bad Medicine" by Bon Jovi always used to sound so different to me as a kid. I swear for years the chorus was "Shakeeta" since all the words just blended in & sounded as one. Yet now when i hear the song(which rocks!).I can hear each word slightly more clear & it goes "Shake it up....like Bad Medicine.."

I never understood Vanilla Ice "Havin' a Roni" way back in the day(I was 9 or so at the time), but now that I know, I think it's pretty funny that my friends and I used to listen to that so much.

I used to love "HotBlooded" by Foriegner. Then, I found out it was about the statutory rape of groupies.

Try all of Sonic Youth's "Washing Machine." Try most of Smashing Pumpkin's "Siamese Dream."

I always had a problem taking meaning from a song by the combination of the title and lyrics. Gave me hell.

It is the exact oppisite for me. If an artist has a song that tells a story, then it more than likely is my favorite song by that artist. It is like a good book or movie, if it has characters you like you can listen to it over and over again. Perfect example: Piano Man by Billy Joel, you can never get enough of that song. Especially live. I have many more I love, I am just drawing a blank right now.

So to the actual topic I must say 20 years later and I still don't know what a Kharma Chameleon is.

Well heres what little of the song i can make out & how everything else sounds to me....

"....Entertain us....have a beer,have a bible.....ello ello ello,yeaa whhaaa yeaeaehhhhhhhh.bling.."...& i just can't make out any of the other lyrics it's such a blur.

Is that true about Hot Blooded though? I used to rock out to that song as a kid. Now i've only heard it a couple times on the classic station & it's alright, yet i still could'nt make out all the lyrics since i was'nt paying attention as i'm driving.

Lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit:

Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

(chorus)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yay!

I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

(chorus)

And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind

hello, hello, hello, how low?

(chorus)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
A denial...

Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

I was in 6th grade when it first came out, and at that time I had no idea that it was about sexual orgasm.

When I was a kid I loved the entire 'Purple Rain' album by Prince, especially "Darling Nikki". I had no idea what "masturbating with a magazine" meant, but I could certainly sing it!

After one of my impromptu performances of the song, my parents told me that it was 'bad'. They wouldn't tell me what it MEANT, just that it was bad. They told me that if I let them throw the tape away, they would buy me TWO other tapes to replacement.

In all of my 8 year old wisdom, I consented. My replacement tapes? "Back to the Future - Original Soundtrack" and "Bryan Adams - Reckless".

Needless to say, as an adult, I once again own "Purple Rain" (and most of the Prince catalog, for that matter) but Bryan Adams isn't allowed in my house.

Damn, I have to request that for the 80's at 8 pm on 1065. I never knew that. I'll be sure to pay attention to the lyrics.

Another one for me is "young lust" by pink floyd. Yes, I know the name should clue me in, but for some reason the lyrics "ohh, I need a dirty woman" didn't click. I finally got what the song was about when I saw the movie. (and I am putting it on the "sexy scenes" thread in movie talk.

No, I meant The Black Crowes. I know it was originally an Otis Redding song, but the version I heard as a kid was performed by TBC.

I can't remember how old I was but I remember the line from the song (which later resurfaced for MOULIN ROUGE)

"Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir"

I still remember hearing this on the radio as a kid. My Mom and Aunt were in the front seat when he sang what sounded like "blinded by the light. wrapped up like a douche". My Aunt whispered to my Mom "did he say what I think he said?"

A friend of mine said that although it's not the lyric, he sang it that way on purpose.

"Wrapped up like a douche" - what the hell is that supposed to mean, anyway?
