Request for a dedicated 'Movie Trailers' section.

I don't know if everybody will agree with me but I think we need a seperate section for trailers. There's a lot of discussion about them and in a way they are short movies in their own rights, sometimes standing completely seperate from the movie they represent.

Yay or Nay for a 'Movie Trailers' section?

edit: Oh, and apologies if someone has already asked and been declined on the same request.

I don't think it's needed. The discusssions are on-topic and don't seem to be overwhelming the forum.

Note that this forum used to be broken in two: "In the Theaters" and "Movies." That didn't really work too well, so they were merged into one.

If you are looking for a forum that deals with movie trailers, checkout www.movie-list.com. They occasionally run a "Trailer Survivor" game there that is fun as well.

i'm with groucho. the trailers aren't really anything without the movie they are for. i mean no one goes crazy for seeing a trailer unless there is a movie following it. most often discussion of the trailers ends up in a thread about the movie as a whole, not just the trailer itself, though there are exceptions (matrix being the biggest one). as it is, this forum is fine and dandy with me.

can't say thanks enough geoff.

Just think how often it would get updated.. trailers are only released from week to week. discussion on the topics would be to slow if you ask me to actually give some life to the forum. I say leave the trailers in movie talk.

It might take away too much space from the War Forum.

What's next, a dedicated forum for discussing why Capt. Kirk wears a standard gold tunic in some STAR TREK episodes, and a greenish, wrap-around tunic in others?!?!

I would like to see a Movie Trailers section if only to specifically identify a group of people that consistently want higher quality Trailers like the Ultra Matrix trailer or the ubersweet WM9 Confidence trailer.

It would also be very nice to share encoding tips for changing trailer formats. Quicktime to Divx 5 as an example. We could also dicuss how to rip the 5.1 movie trailers off the DVD's that we own.

There is also the whole aspect of using DD, DTS and THX trailers in your home theater. That is if you use a HTPC. Or possible discuss custom intros before your trailers.

There are at least a handful of trailers and teasers being released every day. Check out this site.
Also, there are currently at least 7 threads (not counting this one)on the first page of Movie Talk that are about Trailers. That's about 15% of Movie Talk that's about trailers.

It still doesn't warrent a forum for itself. Lets put it this way.. Movie talk is for the discussion of films in theaters and the films themselves on dvd. Trailers would fall under that on potential new topics. Should their be a forum for this stuff when you could easily go their and look at the new trailers? Should there be a Lizzie McGuire trailer thread? Hell if you want to talk about the upcoming film, fine, start a thread, but I doubt the amount of useful discussion would be carried over in said "trailer forum". The link you posted goes beyond just trailers, it goes onto clips and so forth. that would be under movie talk as it isn't really part of the Trailer.

It just doesn't warrent it. If you really want, just keep up by yourself with that site and quicktime.com and of course post any discussion about said trailers in the move forum. Why Gut out a forum and dissect it so much when it works as a whole much nicer?

creating Sub forums takes away a lot of the discussion. Look what happened to the Other forum after the sports, mature and tv were taken out. it went through a slump and a lot of folks both enjoyed and hated how things were so seperated. then again, trailers are much different then sports. at any given day, dozens of games take place in the many different fields of sports. It's not like dozens of clips and trailers are released everyday in order to keep the "trailer forum" alive and full of discussion.
