Older games that were the pinnacle of their respective series

Just wondering how many other people felt that sometimes an older game for an old system was actually the best one ever produced for that series.

For example, I went over to a friend's house the other day, and he pulled put Street Fighter EX plus Alpha for the PS1. I had totally forgotten how much I enjoyed that game. It's much better (IMO) then the more recent street fighter games (vs marvel, alpha 4, etc etc)

I'd love to see Capcom revisit this old title and update it for the more current systems (Xbox!) Keep the game play the same, don't screw with something that isn't broken. They just need to update the graphics...

Archon!!!! It was a cross between chess and a RTS game where you're pieces had to fight once they engaged one another. Sort of like the chess board in Harry Potter. Used to play it on my Commodore 64 with my buddies. Great RTS/Strategy game.

It sure is!

Shinobi is on that list for me, and Mario Bros. Yup, I will play good ole Super Mario Bros for the NES anytime over the 3d crap that is out now.

Like I said, I want the exact same EX plus Alpha game, not one of it's follow ups. Everything in the new version would be the same, but with better grapics.

I can dream...

o i c...yea thatd be great, hell if it had online capabilities i wouldnt even care if the graphics were updated. SSF2 turbo, SF3: 3rd strike, alpha 2 and 3 need to be released for xbox like as well. Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 would be great too.

i can dream too

Either Wing Commander 3 or Wing Commander Privateer is the best of the series.

Yeah, I thought Privateer when I read the thread title. I don't think I've played a space combat game since that I've enjoyed as much.

I'm curious as to why Madden hasn't gotten any better in 10 years.

Dragon Warrior 4 is the best of it's series, and I've played every version of this series. (Except Dragon Warrior Monsters 3, which JUST came out in Japan)

I remember getting a special "copy" of this game the week it came out in Japan and the first thing I said was "Dude! It's Super Metroid with SWORDS!"
