I had zelda: TWW crash on my last night. It came when riding up from the underwater Hyrule castle after meeting the King.
Oddly similar to the 3 or 4 crashes I had in Metroid Prime, all but one of which came when riding up an elevator to another section.
Same message too, but in a different font and color. Something along the lines of "An Error has occcured, refer to your gamecube manual for instructions."
No big deal, it's been flawless otherwise, and I played for 3 hours or so after this with no problems.

My Cube locked up on elevators in Metroid Prime. It happened quite a bit... I sent it back to Nintendo and they just replaced it. Metroid never locked again and Zelda has never locked either.

You sent the game back or the cube?

I haven't had either Metroid or Zelda lockup on me. I have had Rogue Leader lock up on me one time. But no other problems with any of my games or my system. I have a U.S. launch system as well...

I haven't had either game lock up on me. I think there is a known bug in Metroid, but I haven't heard anything on Zelda.

Ooops... I actually sent both Metroid and the Cube back. They sent me my original Metroid with a replacement Cube.

The same thing happened to me the other night, at that exact same place.
It's happened on Metroid a few times too.

I got locked up this weekend on Zelda as well. jawn, could you pass on the contact information you used to send your system in? You make the process sound quite simple.

There have been many people having problems with metroid prime. Call Nintendo and have them send you a new one. The new one should work with no problems.

I just filled out the online repair form here (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/index.jsp). Nintendo even paid for shipping to and from them. The only problem was that I had to live for about a week without the cube... and it was when I was totally addicted to Metroid. :)

I played both through completely and never a problem and I have a launch US system(made in Japan, not China). My cube only freezes on NBA2K3 and Sega is aware of the problem.

Haven't had any problems.
I did have metroid prime lockup once or twice.
Maybe the GCN was overheated.

never in either game...sounds like a hardware problem.

This happened to me repeatedly in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets within a week or so after I bought the Cube. I returned it and got a new one and the problem disappeared. I think it is a hardware issue.

I think there was an article about this in a recent EGM. Indicated that Nintendo would replace the game, but that it really affected all the copies of the game and that it was an issue with the seamless loading that occurred when you did certain specific actions.

Could be I suppose. Maybe some weird memory glitch that causes lockups very infrequently during seemless loading or something. Maybe only in launch units. However, I'd say the following explaination is more likely.

It could well be that what a player does during the seemless loading (i.e. pressing certain button combinations, what way their facing when they get on the elevator or that spot in zelda, etc.) cause the crashes. That could explain why the occur infrequently and why not everyone gets them. If it was a hardware problem common to all gamecubes you'd see more lock ups. If it was an idication of hardware breakdown you wouldn't have seen as many complaints (for MP anyway). And if it was a software problem you'd see more complaints.

No crashes with any game yet. I'm running a 'chipped' Jap import cube.
