Ran Masterworks Question

Is the new Ran coming out on the 15th exclusive to Amazon like the Masterworks collector's set?

I have the amazon box set from last september because I didnt see the point in waiting all this time to have it...plus the box set is very cool. I'll be getting the "new" release as well because I am a firm believer in back-up copies of my most essential favs.

I can't find the boxed set on Amazon. Is this OOP or is their search just not working for me?

this was supposed to be a very limited release...maybe they finally sold out. (5,000)

just searched for "Ran" and it's still listed.

Ah, I found it. It's called the "Kurosawa Collection" - nice.

Steep pricing, but for a limited edition and three discs, not too bad.

I saw this Friday in a local shop, well known for it's lax interpretation of street dates.

Any word on the transfer? The original release is EASILY the worst looking DVD in my collection.

Isn't the new disc the same as the boxed set version? I haven't seen any reviews for it, but obviously a few folks on here have it.

I'd be interested in seeing how this compares to the old crappy Fox Lorber edition too.

if you can get....do so. the box is outstanding, although I think it's #1 complaint is the box housing itself...which I've never had a problem with. besides, it's not like you only get that film in a box. the other dvds are just as essential and there are alot of bonus goodies. you know that when it's long gone...it will go on ebay for a ton and everyone will wish they had gotton it. it's never appriciated, like a dead musician....until it's too late.

btw, the above link says it all about the transfer.

Wow. Thank you for that very detailed and example-filled link. That obviously took a lot of work to do.

Way to take one for the team.
