The Official "Support your favorite up & coming band" Thread
I don't know if something like this has been posted before but I thought it would be a good idea. I have a good friend of mine who is in a popular band in the Wash. DC area and I got to see them play this past weekend for the first time and they were awsome.
I thought this would be a good idea if anyone here knows of some good local or up & coming bands so we all can check out their website and sample some of their stuff. You never know, the right person might see this thread and it could be the big break for someone.
My buddy is Maurice, he's lead vocals of the band combinationLOCK

Year of the Rabbit.
They are already signed to Elektra. They are going to be touring with Pete Yorn.
The band's mastermind is Ken Andrews from Failure and ON. I can't wait for this album to drop. I've already ordered the 4 song ep and it's excellent. They do a stone roses cover of "I wanna be adored". Great great stuff.

I went to high school with these guys, and got to hear them perform in the school cafateria at lunch. Since then they have really refined their sound. They are out of the DC area and their new two-disc live album "Any Time Now" is a must own.

A pop-punk bank out of MA. I really like their sound and used to do some webpage designing with one of the guys. I have been following this band for a while and their new EP sounds really good. Check them out.

Jesse Malin
He's good, really good. If I had to describe him, I'd say he's like a combination of Ryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen (Ry is one of his best friends, and produced his first album) He's got really good lyrics, and in his acoustic songs manages to capture the dourness that Ryan's exhibit. He just recently released his new album "The Heat" which is a very good album, but not as good as his first one entitled "The Fine Art of Self Destruction" I picked up the Fine Art as basically a blind buy (only knew the Adams connection) and it has become one of my most played albums, even eclipsing most of Ryan's stuff

Beyond The Embrace ...
Great combo of classic and metal and new style metal, the vocalist sounds like an early James Hetfield. Saw them twice opening for Helloween and opening for Iced Earth they kicked a$$

Saw them open for Opeth and Lacuna Coil here in Minneapolis. They put on a great show. (Had some technical difficulties w/ equipment, but handled it professionally and kept going right on through).
Picked up their cd at the show, and it's a really solid effort.

These guys are a Chicago-area band, and they're pretty good. I saw them live before, and they put on a good show and have some great covers. Their sound is a mix of everything from Dispatch to Dave Matthews Band and Starsailor. Check out some of their stuff. I think it's pretty catchy.

There are several, but since you said just one, I'd probably pick The City Drive (LA-area). They haven't released anything yet, but they really do rock every way from Sunday.

Only 1 for me Monique Powell!!! Formerly of Save Ferris, I have been patiently awaiting her solo debut. I got to see her about a year ago at House of Blues in Anaheim in one of her first non-Save Ferris performances and it was way better than the 14+ times I saw her with Save Ferris. She ended with a spectacular performance of "We Aren't Gonna Take It" Such a great performance.

Rilo Kiley
They are blowing up the indy scene right now, as their 3rd album is due out later this summer.

I have friends in the band, but I think they are amazing anyway.

Rilo Kiley is pretty huge (like they had a #1 record on the CMJ charts). I have heard the new single and her voice is maturing a lot and am not too sure if I completely dig it. I noticed they aren't on Saddle-Creek. Also, another band that Saddle-Creek would sign is Tilly and the Wall which Conor Oberst is a smart man for making a label to sign them because this band should be huge at least in the college realm.
Jesse Malin might get bigger than he is and has potential to do so.
Secret Machines are also already pretty massive in the college world and it seems like when your new record is on a major, it's an easy pick to be put on the up and coming track. I think the Rilo is actually being distributed by a major now, actually. I would like to hear that Monique Powell, actually.
I think Brother Ali is getting some steam from the college cirbuit but I can see him going up. His newest ep is pretty good and is doing well at the college station i work at.

Anything with Josh Homme in it is pretty much a shoe in to get big. I think I will check out the Scabs. Sounds good and I think I remember reading about them in MAXIMUMROCKNROLL.
I also think the Double will start to become pretty big in the college world and the psch-stoner rock Comets on Fire (who just got released on Subpop) might be a thriving force at least at the level of other Subpop bands the Catheaters and the Thermals.
