isn't it true that the 1.66:1 isn't what the director intended and the AR is actually 1.85:1 ??

Both 1.85:1 and 1.33:1 are compromises of the 1.66:1 aspect ratio the film was animated for.

Just like Beauty and the Beast. And the DVD is a cropped 1.85. I think the director intended 1.85 here too.

Beautiful box art. But I'll probably pass. $49 is a bit rich for my blood for what you get. I'm more interested in the on-disk features anyway.

Hopefully though some kind soul will do a custom disk cover using the box art.

wonder how much of the Laserdisc special features particularily all the character designs will make it over to the Platinum DVD edition. The Laserdisc is a chore and finger buster in the 'step forward' feature.

Hmmm.. considering it. I kind of like it... though I don't like spending that much on one movie, and it's not my favorite.

Looks like all you get are some pictures and a book. I'll pass.

Umm….that’s pretty silly buying the LD now when the platinum is so close! But since you did get it maybe you can tell us if the “sex” is still on the sky

Looks damn_sweet to me, and I know my wife will be all over it. I've been considering picking up the LD box, but I may wait to see how this stacks up.

I like this - but it seems a bit extra for a book and 5 sketches.

Actually, if you're a Disney collector & the Lion King happens to be one of your favourite films & you get the LD at a much lower price than what was the original SRP...it's not silly.

I will buy the regular version, I think this was a great movie, just not worth the price for this box set unless it comes out around $35-$37

Well Disney's information says the Lion King DVD will be 1.66:1, and I know that that's the ratio I want it to be. If it's 1.85:1, not only do you lose some of the sides to overscan (as is the case for most movies, but not when it's 1.66:1 anamorphic), but you're missing 10% of the top and bottom. Someone made a comparison page for the Beauty and the Beast LD vs. the DVD and the DVD's 1.85:1 matte job displayed inferior composition to the 1.66:1 caps from the laserdisc.

Since Disney is saying it's 1.66:1 anamorphic, it's pretty much a moot point, unless they change it like they did last year.

Anyway, I must ask, where did you get those screencap illustrations from? They're exactly the type of thing I've been looking for!

Ditto. Looks really cool but it's overpriced. Will get regular platinum edition.
