Tomorrow Never Dies - What's with the camera on the top of the screen

I was watching my DVD of Tomorrow Never Dies for the first time and there are parts in the film where a white camera appears on the top of the screen. It hangs out ther for a while, disappears, and then comes back again. I tried restarting the movie and even turning it off and then restarting it, and the camera goes on/off at the same spots each time. Not sure if there is a FS version out there, but this is the WS version. What's up with this? Does anyone know why it does this?

It might mean that there is an alternate angle available.

I tried that button on the remote and it didn't do anything. Is there a way to remove it?

The disc is encoded with storyboards as an alternate angle.

On most DVD players, the only way to get rid of the icon is to go into the player's setup menus and turn off all on-screen displays.

I'll try that. That menu is available only when there isn't a disc in the player right? Sorry for my ignorance, and thanks for your help.

huh, if you have to manually turn them off then why on the true romance se dvd (it has storyboards) no little camera comes on the screen. But on my Mallrats dvd, it does. This is a jvc player. The samsung plays fine with no little camera at all.

My JVC does that too. I'll hafta see if I can turn off "on-screen displays". It's distracting...

Go to the subtitle button, and move it to off. It worked when I wanted to get rid of the mallrats logo while watching the commentary.

Well, yes I believe it's the 'angle indicator' I was able to turn it off rather easily on my Pioneer.

The camera sign tells you it's a popular scenic spot for picture taking, just like in a national park

You're probably supposed to hit enter when the camera appears to see a behind-the-scenes doc on that particular scene. Just go to the special features menu & look for that feature & turn it off. Some players will activate certain features on certain dvds- mine will turn subtitles on for some movies automatically, but when I go to Languages, Subtitles menu on the dvd & turn it off, it's gone. If you turn that feature off (even though it shouldn't really be on) it will probably get rid of it.

Great question. It happened to me too a long time ago, and I never bothered to found out why or fix it. Now I know.

Look's like a lotta people thought they were hotshots and they didn't need to read the player manuel.
